Job Description
This position serves as an assistant and secretary to the Civil Service Commission for the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office. The chief examiner shall keep the records for the commission, preserve all reports made to it, superintend, and keep a record of all examinations held under its direction, and perform such other duties as the commission may prescribe. This is a part-time position that will work 4 - 8 hours per month.
Job Duties
The commission shall appoint a chief examiner who shall also serve as secretary of the commission and such assistants as may be necessary. The commission has supervisory responsibility over the chief examiner.
Qualifications
The chief examiner shall be appointed as a result of competitive examination, which examination must be open to all properly qualified citizens of the county or of an adjacent county: PROVIDED, that no appointee of the commission, either as chief examiner or as an assistant to the chief examiner, shall be an employee of the sheriff's department.
Possess a valid driver’s license.
One (1) year clerical experience and/or experience taking meeting minutes.
High School diploma or equivalent.
Possess good typing and note taking skills with an excellent working knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and document preparation.
Successfully pass a criminal background investigation to include reference checks and fingerprinting/background check.
Miscellaneous:
The chief examiner may be subject to suspension, reduction, or discharge in the same manner and subject to the same limitations as are provided in the case of members of the classified service.
Supplemental Information
Working Conditions:
May be required to work 8 hours per month.
May be required to travel for training purposes and commute to other departments or government agencies.
Observe, abide, and set examples of all county and department policies, goals, and objectives.
Able to work well and complete duties under stress, and deadlines, while attending to multiple duties simultaneously.
Tolerate prolonged computer related exposure. Ability to sit/stand at a workstation for long periods of time.
