Salary: $36,999-$55,499 (46,249 midpoint) based on education and experience.

Advocacy Specialist

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in a human services field is required. A bachelor’s degree in social work or master’s degree in social work or counseling with licensure in the state of North Dakota and at least one year of direct social service experience is preferred. Upon hire, the candidate will receive training as recommended by the North Dakota Council on Abused Women’s Services to provide direct service to clients.

COMPENSATION: $36,999-$55,499 ($46,249 midpoint) based on education and experience. Benefits include a generous leave package including annual leave, sick leave and personal days; 11 paid holidays; health, dental, vision, and life insurance; 403(b) with employer match; potential eligibility for federal student loan forgiveness. CVIC participates in the ND Working Parents Child Care Relief program.

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

RESPONSIBILITIES

Crisis Intervention

  • Assess abuse and sexual assault situations reported to the agency and make appropriate decisions regarding intervention to enhance the safety of the victim and minors.
  • Make all necessary arrangements to provide safe housing, food, and other necessities to victims and minors during crisis periods.

Individual Support and Advocacy

  • Demonstrate professional listening skills while assisting clients in identifying options, establishing goals, and developing coping skills.
  • Provide victims with accurate information about the criminal justice system, court procedures, protective orders, and law enforcement procedures.
  • Accompany victims to legal proceedings and/or medical examinations and provide appropriate support.
  • Organize and lead support groups as needed for victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

Referrals

  • Be familiar with area agencies and services and provide clients with appropriate referral information. 

Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely records of all contacts with clients and other agencies, according to established procedures.
  • Distribute and collect surveys from clients that are seeking crisis and supportive services.

Public Education

  • Provide presentations and education to the public and area professionals about topics relevant to the position.

Participate on agency and community committees as assigned .
