LOCATION: City of Saratoga Springs – Mayor’s Office – Building Department
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following qualification(s) MUST be met and clearly stated on the City of Saratoga Springs employment application form: either
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered TWO (2) year college with an Associate Degree or higher, and TWO (2) years of full-time paid (or part time 20hr per week paid equivalent); experience in general construction, paralegal, zoning administration, engineering, landscape architecture, architecture, planning, OR
- Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and FOUR (4) years of full-time paid (or part time 20hr per week paid equivalent); experience in general construction, paralegal, zoning administration, engineering, landscape architecture, architecture, planning, (or part time paid equivalent).
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: illustrative only
- Review building permit applications for compliance with Zoning, the City’s Unified Development Ordinance and other applicable laws;
- Explains zoning regulations to applicants and/or contractors;
- Communicates the critical review path of individual projects to applicants such as anticipated next steps, timeline of applicable land use board processes, and status updates;
- Provides technical assistance and information to the Building staff in activities related to the enforcement of the Unified Development Ordinance as related to the Building Permit review process;
- Provides technical assistance and information to the Planning department staff to support the administration of land use board review process;
- Reviews architectural/subdivision/site plans to assure compliance with, or identify potential variances from, requirements such as use, bulk, placement, and parking ratios;
- Researches property history and City records to prepare zoning compliance reports and assists the Zoning and Building Inspector with preparation of zoning determinations;
