GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Driver is a part-time employee of the City of Kenai working under the direction of the Senior Center Administrative Assistant III. The Driver operates a City vehicle to transport clients to and from various destinations, hand-deliver meals to client homes within the service area, and provide support to the department. This position requires daily contact with senior citizens, City employees, and the general public.*Two positions are currently open
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Safely operate City vehicles. Transport Senior Center clients to and from the Senior Center within the community.Provide passenger assistance to clients needing assistance in entering and exiting the vehicle.Deliver meals to homebound clients daily in accordance with federal regulations and City and/or Senior Center policies and procedures. Prepare all paperwork needed for meal delivery and/or transportation of seniors.Assist in packaging and loading prepared home meals; monitor safe handling to include proper food temperature of meals during transport; return empty delivery containers to the kitchen; store or discard leftover food depending on temperature; clean hot box and thermos bag.Check vehicle before driving; maintain a clean and safe vehicle and report mechanical concerns in a timely way; fuel vehicle as needed; document mileage. Maintain strict confidentiality of privileged communications and information and comply with privacy laws and regulations.Interact effectively and courteously with City employees, clients, and members of the public.Perform tasks with minimal or no supervision.Attend Department training, including an on-site driver course, and other continuing education programs.Have regular, reliable, and predictable attendance at work.Perform other related duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONSTwo (2) years’ experience working with the senior population.WORKING ENVIRONMENT The Driver must work in all different weather conditions, including extreme temperatures (e.g., high temp., low temp., winds, snow, ice, fog, direct sunlight) and is exposed to potentially dangerous driving conditions. Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors in a varied working environment, usually during the day. Inside work is usually in buildings, adequately heated, lit, and ventilated. The employee may be exposed to dust and other irritants and toxic/poisonous substances. The employee is required to drive a vehicle and perform work inside a vehicle. Personal protective equipment is provided and must be used in accordance with best practices, federal and state laws, and City/Department policies and operating procedures. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The Driver must sit in a vehicle, and disembark from the vehicle many times during the day, stretch, lift up to 50 pounds on occasion, carry large and small loads, and climb stairs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is sometimes required to use hands and fingers dexterously (e.g., operate vehicles, telephones, computers, and correctly secure wheelchairs and other mobility devices). Specific vision abilities required include color and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to hear and communicate verbally in person as well as on radio and telephone. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION The City of Kenai is an equal opportunity employer. The applicant pool acquired during this recruitment may be used for future vacancies for up to sixty (60) days after this recruitment closes.
