The Road Test Examiner will be trained to know if a customer is eligible to take a road test by inspecting a customer’s vehicle for basic equipment (brakes, steering, signals, lights) and road worthiness (tires, visibility, vehicle damage) before the test begins. You will accompany customers in their vehicle, observing and documenting exact driving maneuvers outlined by the FL Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (HSMV). You will accurately convey road test instructions to a customer. You will observe the customer's ability to execute various driving maneuvers and the conditions that surround these maneuvers. You will score your observations of the customer's performance on the HSMV road test score sheet.
The Road Test Examiner will inform the customer of the results of the road test to include pass or fail and answer any questions the customer may have. Additionally, discuss the results of the road test with a parent or guardian.
The Road Test Examiner may be required to administer a learner’s license test to customers via reading the test to the customer. This test delivery method is mostly used when English is not the customer’s first language, and the customer supplies their own interpreter. You will read the test to the interpreter, who will then translate to the customer for scoring. You will then grade the results of the examination and advise the customer of their result and review any questions the customer may ask for clarification.
The Road Test Examiner must work outside in unfavorable weather conditions including rain, heat, cold, etc. If extreme weather is in the area, road testing may be temporarily paused by the Branch Manager until weather conditions are more favorable.
