Part-Time, Scheduled, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides direct, on-site supervision of clients ensuring their safety during Medical Clearance Exams, prepares the examination room prior to exams, prepares the patient for the exam, including a full set of vital signs and assisting with other noted nursing assessment needs. Assists Doctor or Nurse Practitioner during the medical exams, noting follow up care, communicating with the social worker and child’s caregiver, as necessary regarding the child’s identified needs. Communicates with the Program Director on supply needs; including but not limited to medications, exam room supplies and forms.

Follows all Policies and Procedures; Title 22 guidelines and Department of Social Services Licensing Regulations. Assist in the development and implementation of client plans by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides direct supervision of clients while being examined by Doctor, Nurse Practitioner or Medical Technicians.

• Assists Medical Technicians in the coordination of daily schedule of all appointments, including communicating the follow-up care noted (i.e. labs, x-rays, medications) to the Childs Caregiver and/or social worker.

• Ensures cleanliness of exam rooms, prepares exam room prior to placing each patient in room utilizing infection control prevention.

• Assists Nurse Practitioner or Doctor during the medical exam.

• Assist with taking and recording client’s Vital Signs, providing basic nursing assessment as guided by the Nurse Practitioner or Doctor.

• Work in conjunction with the Nurse Practitioner or Doctor to ensure timely and efficient turnover of exam rooms when applicable.

• Stock and monitor supplies and equipment on appropriate tracking forms communicating with the Program Director at CRH.

• Fax and/or photocopy pertinent information for Public Health Nurses to provide follow up care in the patient’s home.

• Follow up with dispensing medication for patient as noted by Nurse Practitioner or Doctor.

• Apply knowledge of Licensing regulations, Title 22 and CRH Policies and Procedures.

• Apply knowledge of OSHA regulations and infection prevention.

• Apply HIPPA knowledge in daily routine.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Personnel Management

• Supervises and supports medical services staff.

• Oversees and participates in the interviewing and hiring process, ensuring compliance with all agency and regulatory policies, practices and laws.

• Responsible for the collection, review, approval and submission of direct reports’ timesheets. Ensure Supervisors adhere to agency timeframes, policies and procedures with regard to timesheets.

• Assists staff with identification of individual skill or knowledge deficits and facilitate availability of learning opportunities and develop and administer a plan for development.

• Oversees staff, providing the necessary and appropriate counseling or disciplinary action in accordance with agency policies, consulting with the Human Resources Manager when major disciplinary action is needed.

• Adheres to policies, procedures and regulations of the Children’s Receiving Home.

• Ensures orientation and training for new staff and subsequently ensure staff are enrolled in and/or have completed required training.

• Ensures completion and routing of all required original personnel and training forms and records to the Human Resources and Training Departments, respectively.

• Conducts timely performance evaluations for direct reports as well as monitoring timeliness of all performance evaluations.

• Participates in Agency-wide quality management efforts and planning.

• Creates and maintains a focus on outcomes for assigned program.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises and supports all Medical Technicians.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

• A current and valid California License in Vocational Nursing that is in good standing with the Board of Nursing is required.

• Minimum of two years’ experience working with children under the age of 5.

• Experience working in a clinic, hospital, or physician’s office.

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:

  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s License.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must pass First Aid certification course before start of employment. Certification can be completed through the Children’s Receiving Home.
  • Must pass CPR within the first six weeks of employment
  • Must pass Bloodborne Pathogens and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification courses offered through the Children’s Receiving Home within the first three months of employment.
  • Must maintain TCI, CPR, First Aid and BBP Certification throughout employment.
  • Must complete online Mandated Reporter Training within first week of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities:

• Ability to read, speak, understand, analyze and interpret documents such as client safety/treatment plans, assessment materials and procedure manuals in the English language.

• Ability to write professional/clinical reports and correspondence.

• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and talk or hear. Fine motor skills such as typing, the use of a computer mouse and telephone handset is required. Employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
