Description

A medical speech-language pathologist works in health care and diagnoses and treats a wide range of speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. They work with patients affected by a variety of neurological events. They may also work with patients who suffer from chronic diseases or who have experienced a trauma.

Speech pathologists examine patients and create treatment plans tailored to their needs. These patients may have speech articulation issues, voice quality problems, or language disorders. Treatment could be modifying a patients diet or prescribing a speech-generating device.

About the Position

• Hiring PRN SLP to assist coverage of caseloads at our Campbell and Saratoga subacute facilities.
• Covering pediatric clients 0-20:11 yo.
• Flexible hours (approximately 5-10hrs/wk) with the possibility of extending hours in the future.
• Great team of Rehab Supervisors, OTs, PTs, and SLPs.
• Developmental, feeding, GT, ventilator/trach dependent, TBI population.
• Pediatric and/or acute experience preferred but willing to train.

Qualifications

Roles and Responsibilities

• Accurately evaluates and treat patients with communication and/or swallowing disorders and cognitive impairments.
• Maintain and complete patient records.
• Participate in patient care conferences, family meetings, team conferences and related staff conferences. Conduct in-service training programs for hospital staff regarding speech therapy services. Supervises RNA when appropriate for maintenance feeding programs or oral stimulation programs. Supervises speech therapy students.
• Participate in discharge planning.
• Complete appropriate Speech Pathology charges rendered each month.
• Establishes appropriate policies and procedures for the department.
• Works with Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, physician, nursing and dietary to coordinate dyphagia protocols and treatment strategies.
• Maintains and increases professional competency by participating in continued education and annual review.
• Communicates effectively with patients, hospital staff and families. Establishes augmentative communication when appropriate.
• Collaborates with all members of the Rehabilitation department.

• Master's Degree in Speech Pathology.

• Current California State License in Speech Pathology from the Board of Medical Quality Assurance. Pediatric clinical experience in a variety of communication, language, and dysphagia disorders. Good organizational, time management, verbal, and written skills.
• Pediatric skills and expertise in current evaluation and remediation techniques for communicatively impaired individuals.

Knowledge of augmentative communication.

• Physical strength and mobility to meet demands of job. Able to meet employee health requirements. Vision and hearing adequate to perform job requirements.
• Occasional bending, squatting, and reaching. Frequent sitting and standing. When appropriate floor sitting with pediatric patients.
