What is the Boys & Girls Club?

As “The Positive Place For Kids” we provide guidance-oriented character development programs for children 6 to 18 years old conducted by a full-time professional staff. The Boys & Girls Club of Evansville nurtures young people’s self-esteem by instilling in them a sense of belonging, usefulness, influence and competence. Our Clubs do this daily by providing young people with well-rounded programming. Core programs at the Club engage young people annually in activities with adults, peers and family members that enable them to develop self-esteem and to reach their full potential.

TITLE: Athletic Coordinator

SUPERVISOR(S): Athletic Director, Unit Director(s), Director of Operations

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Plan, implement, supervise, program and evaluate activities in the Sports and Fitness program for members 6-17yrs. Promote healthy lifestyles and maintain safety standards within the athletic department. Under the supervision of the Athletic Director the Athletic Coordinator provides leadership, support, guidance and development to youth development professionals (YDP) that will assist them in delivering programs in the core area(s). Completion of direct and indirect reports in timely fashion. Reporting and updating grants related to their core area(s). Maintain relationships with parents, schools, community groups organizations, volunteers.

This position works full-time with a typical schedule of Monday through Friday, 11:30am - 7:30pm during the school year. Summer hours are Monday through Friday, 8am til 4:30pm.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Leadership

1. To ensure the integrity of the Club’s Mission and its policies as determined by the Board of Directors and communicated through your supervisor.

2. To promote and maintain an effective guidance program through an environment conducive to socially acceptable standards of behavior and growth for all individual members.

3. Recruit and manage YDP staff and volunteers that help with the dissemination of information in the core area(s).

4. Provide and maintain an effective staff supervision, training, performance review and documentation process.

5. To maintain the timely execution of administrative and management requirements specific to this core service area(s).

Resource Management

6. To furnish on request budgeting needs and information for this specific core service area(s).

7. To comply with periodic reporting of essential and requested statistical, evaluative and other forms of information.

Partnership Development

8. Develop partnerships with parents, schools, community leaders, organizations and volunteers.

Marketing and Public Relations

9. Develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services and activities within the Club and the community.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. To plan, initiate and coordinate, supervise and evaluate health and physical education programs based on the developmental needs of the youth.

2. Work with staff on special events to carry out programs in all departments.

3. Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan.

4. Assist other Boys & Girls Club staff members, as may be requested from time to time, in meeting the overall needs of the organization.

5. Assume other duties as assigned.

6. To assist in maintaining a clean, safe and healthy environment.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. Has regular contact with members as needed to discipline, advise, and counsel.

External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize Club.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

· Attended an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.

· A minimum of two year’s work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience.

· Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

· Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff.

· Ability to deal effectively with members including discipline problems.

· Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: physically and mentally able to perform essential functions, possess sufficient physical strength and energies required to effectively engage in activities with children and support and sustain the physical environment.

· Ability to perform gross and fine motor activities required for daily office work, such as typing, writing, telephone usage, computer keyboards, fax machine buttons, etc.

· Ability to work in a professional environment and positively represent organization under various levels of stress.

· Ability to work on multiple projects and prioritize effectively.

· Visual acuity for accurate reading, typing, filing and use of computer screen.

· Ability to work at a rapid pace, with frequent interruptions and changes in plans or deadlines may occur.

· Hearing needed for purposes of business-related communications, etc.

· Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, pull up to 20 lbs.

· Ability to handle hazardous/infectious waste; work where chemicals are used for cleaning; work where environmental dust, mist, and/or steam are occasionally present.

· Must have satisfactory driving record, valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and liability insurance for operation of a motor vehicle relevant to carrying out duties of position and to be covered under company insurance the requirement is for the employee to be a minimum of age 21.

· Must be able to pass any and all required background screens and drug screens at any time of employment.

· Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.
