Job Description

The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Westfield is seeking qualified applicants for the following opening: Lifeguard This position assists in maintaining a safe environment, enforces all pool rules and follows all required emergency procedures.

JOB SUMMARY:

1. Supervise swimmers in accordance with American Red Cross certification for Lifesaving.

2. Maintain a safe environment before, during and after aquatics programs.

3. Maintain pool area, locker rooms and aquatic office cleanliness before, during and after shift.

4. Notify Program Director of any needed repairs to equipment.

5. Assist when needed in evaluation of aquatic programs.

6. Ensure proper supervision of locker rooms before, during and after changing times.

7. Ensure that all doors to the locker rooms, aquatic office and pool area are shut and locked at all appropriate times.

8. Maintaining the chemical in the pool by doing daily readings at least 3 times a day and logging in the required book

9. If there are 2 guards on duty you are not sitting with each other – you are always stationed at opposite ends of the pool

10. You will not use your cell phone while on deck/in the locker rooms/or while having children in your care

11. NO video taking or posting pictures of children at any time is allowed

12. There is NEVER to be a child alone in the locker rooms even if they need to use the restroom, they must take a buddy and (1) guard must always stand outside the door of the locker room.

13. Under no circumstances should a guard ever be alone with a child on deck or in the locker rooms.

14. At no time should children be left unattended in the locker rooms – there must be always a staff person in the locker rooms with children.

REPORTS TO: Directors

Hourly Rate and terms of employment will be commensurate with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Westfield. Hourly Rate will be based on information contained in the application as submitted.

Job Requirements

· Must be 18 years of age.

· Current American Red Cross CPR, First Aid and Advanced Lifesaving certification required.

· Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

· Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.

· Lifeguard certification w/ CPR for the professional rescuer

· Must meet all requirements associated with certification

· Complete all required EEC trainings within 3 weeks of hire

· Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required

· Able to pass a Background record check & fingerprint

· Agree to be enrolled in First Advantage monthly monitoring

· Knowledge of principles related to development of youth between 2.9 and 18 years of age

· Strong organizational, communication, leadership, technology, and interpersonal skills

· Demonstrated ability to effectively work with others and provide leadership to youth and adults

· Knowledge of youth development

· Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior issues

Expected hours: 30 – 35 per week
