Recreation Therapist Responsibilities:

• Developing, staffing, and implementing a full-range activity program. This includes working in collaboration with activities staff at other levels of care.
• The Recreation Therapist is accountable for planning, coordinating, and implementing a full scope activity program for residents on a daily basis to meet their individual needs and interests.
• Coordinate and run programs for older adults. Long term care, short term care and dementia care. Must be creative, energetic and enjoy working with large groups. Join our exciting creative team of professionals. Does include some evenings and weekends.
• Maintaining ongoing rapport with residents for feedback in order to plan, encourage and facilitate activity participation in programs and events.
• Serves as a member of the management team and attends all meetings.
• Participates as the staff representative on the resident Activities Committee. Prepares reports as directed by the resident committee chair person.
• Preparing monthly calendars, and activities section of the newsletter to be distributed to all residents and staff, as well as to prospective residents on the newsletter mailing list.
• Arranging purchase of tickets for community musical and theatrical events.
• Ordering and purchasing appropriate tickets, supplies and materials necessary for the department.
• Other duties as assigned.

Recreation Therapist Qualifications:

• At least two years of college is required. A bachelors degree in the liberal arts, social science or a related field is preferred.
• A strong and empathetic understanding of the needs of the aging adult is imperative. A customer service-oriented attitude is also necessary.
• This position requires excellent communication skills (English, oral and written),
• This position requires good organizational skills, the ability to generate enthusiasm, and ability to accept and utilize supervision. Initiative and the ability to follow through are essential.
• Good judgment is also required in scheduling events and screening speakers and entertainers.
• Highly valued qualities include dependability; flexibility; courtesy and ability to relate well to others; genuine compassion for the aging adult; a friendly personality; customer service orientation; and the ability to deal with residents in a pleasant and professional manner. Must be able to work independently, and demonstrate initiative.
