Brooklyn Bridge Park is Hiring a Horticulture Intern Near Brooklyn, NY

Summary Brooklyn Bridge Park (BBP) is an 85-acre, 1.3-mile public space that stretches along the Brooklyn waterfront. Our mission is to connect people, nature, and the waterfront through inclusive, innovative, and sustainable management and design. Our vision is to contribute to a healthier, more livable city.We are looking for dedicated Horticulture Interns who are passionate about public horticulture and looking to obtain hands-on experience in the field.Reporting to the Deputy Director of Horticulture, the Horticulture Interns will work alongside the Horticulture staff and assist with the landscape management of the Park. The Horticulture Interns will commit to 308 hours of work over 3 months. Through the duration of the position, interns will acquire skills in native plant identification, invasive species management, woody plant-care, irrigation repairs, as well as perform other duties associated with ecological horticulture. Position will run June through August. Essential Functions:
  • Hardworking, energetic, self-motivated, and dedicated to the details.
  • Comfortable working independently or with a team and can balance multiple projects and tasks.
  • Flexible and solutions oriented.
  • Previous experience in custodial maintenance and/or park-setting preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Experience using custodial equipment such as leaf blowers, string trimmers, buffer machines etc.
  • Physically able to stand and walk most of the day;
  • Strong communication skills and basic computer and cellphone knowledge;
  • Ability to work shifting schedules (seasonally), overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed;
  • Ability to lift more than 40 pounds on a regular basis;

Additional information
  • This is a part-time, 16 hours per week, non-exempt position
  • Work days are Wednesday & Thursday
  • Typical hours: 7AM-3:30PM
