Baker Industries, a Lincoln Electric Company is Hiring a Tool Builder (Night Shift) Near Macomb, MI

The Tool Builder builds, fabricates, assembles, and repairs fixtures, forms, templates, and related tooling used in manufacturing automotive and aerospace parts and assemblies.

DUTIES

  • Examine blueprint of part for which template, jig, fixture, or other tooling is being built
  • Calculate unspecified dimensions and lay out design on assorted materials to establish and coordinate reference points and tooling holes using measuring instruments such as dividers and straight edges
  • Set up and operate a variety of machines and shop equipment to cut, shape, and finish materials to specified dimensions
  • Fit, align, and assemble tooling components and measure tooling assembly for conformance to specifications using precision measuring and checking instruments
  • Join assembly components using bolts, pins, clamps, screws, rivets, or other methods
  • Repair or rework tools
  • May draw sketches and prepare detailed instructions for fabricating or machining to be performed by other workers
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations inside and outside plants
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
  • Documents actions by completing production timesheets
  • Accomplish organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
  • Additional job duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in the use of tool-making machinery (Bridgeport, surface grinder, saw, etc.)
  • Previous experience in tool building/assembly STRONGLY preferred
  • Ability to pass a drug test in compliance with the law
  • Ability to pass a background check in compliance with the law
  • To conform to U.S. export control regulations, applicants should be eligible for any required authorizations from the U.S. Government

  • Stamina: The ability to physically exert yourself for long periods of time without getting out of breath
  • Depth perception: the ability to judge which of several objects is closer or farther from you, or to judge the distance between you and an object
  • Operation and control: control of equipment or systems operations
  • Active listening: paying full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
  • Critical thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Coordination: adjusting actions as a response to the actions of others
  • Judgment and decision making: Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one
