We are seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to oversee all threatened and active litigation related to premises liability, fair housing and employment law, and work closely with the team that handles general liability, property damage, crime, and mold claims and collaborate with claims adjusters on strategy. As the Litigation Manager, you will collaborate closely with internal teams, external legal counsel, and insurance claim adjusters to develop strategies and achieve favorable outcomes. Additionally, you will provide general support on property management of apartment communities. Key Responsibilities: Manage and oversee outside counsel in various litigation matters, including case strategy development, document review, and trial preparation. Coordinate and maintain communication between internal teams, external legal representatives, and insurance claim adjusters to ensure alignment on case objectives and strategies. Assist in the gathering, organizing, and production of documents for discovery requests, including responding to interrogatories, requests for production, and subpoenas. Maintain meticulous records and databases to track the status of documents, deadlines, and case developments. Take the lead in preparing reporting to senior leaders on threatened and active litigation. Collaborate with attorneys and claim teams in preparing witnesses for depositions, including conducting background research, compiling relevant documents, and providing guidance on questioning techniques. Stay updated on relevant legal developments and assist in conducting legal research as required. Evaluate and manage matters related to landlord/tenant law, including resident issues and disputes, AMLI’s policies and procedures, changes in law such as evolving eviction and renewals, fair housing compliance, and rent control, in each case in collaboration with Operations, other Business Units and senior management, as necessary, focusing on assessing and de-escalating legal and liability concerns. Evaluate, investigate, manage, and resolve resident issues via AMLI’s online incident reporting system, in collaboration with key stakeholders. Oversee general liability incidents, employment disputes, crime, fair housing, and other resident issues, including timely filing of claims, and coordination with insurers in managing claims that progress to litigation. Work closely with human resource department and outside counsel on employee relation and employment law issues including reviewing agency position statements related to EEOC, OSHA and other agency issues. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certification from an ABA approved program is required. A minimum 3 years of related work experience in litigation oversight and management is required. A strong understanding of legal procedures, including discovery, deposition and trial process is required. Experience in dispute and conflict resolution, employment law, fair housing compliance and risk management of legal matters related to property management, landlord tenant laws, leases, residents, and crime and security is preferred. Knowledge and understanding of general legal terms, laws and procedures and ability to conduct and interpret legal research is preferred. Effective use of logic, deductive reasoning and flexibility in analyzing and guiding an issue. Ability to make direct decisions under conditions of risk and or uncertainty. Ability to understand and apply applicable law, including landlord/tenant laws and communicate and disseminate internal policies and procedures based on such laws.
