The Customs Broker responsibilities are all related to importing and exporting. Customs brokers help importers and exporters understand and meet the rules and regulations put in place by the federal government with regard to the trade industry The job requires a detailed oriented person to handle all government trade regulations, tariff classifications, insurance requirements, restrictions regarding shipments and shipment arrangements. They need to be able to work well in a team related environment, as well as on their own. This person must have good communication skills, as they will interact closely with clients and also co-workers on all related topics listed including problem solving. Performs other related duties as required and assigned. Receive the duty free shop’s purchase orders in an inventory management software (JD Edwards) Must compare vendor invoices to the purchase order and verify pieces, cost, items and adding freight to ensure correct billingApprove shop freight bills. Prepare receiving packages for submission to Miami .Maintain all files pertaining to vendor invoices, purchase orders, freight bills; for audit purposes. Transmits using the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) system for all US Customs entries for the duty free shop direct imports. Provide tariff classifications on perfumery, cosmetics, watches, jewelry, sunglasses and handbags. Meet all government agencies requirements, such as The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the perfumes, cosmetics, fish & wildlife and watches. Must contact for Medical Device Establishment and register sunglasses as they are considered a medical device.Arrange shipment pick up from the airport. Verify that shipments are insured by vendor; if it is not must submit a claim for shortages. Prepare and follow up with returned merchandise. When necessary receives all transfers from Diplomatic Duty Free Shop (DDFS) to MET, also create the reverse transfer and receiving from MET to Diplomatic Duty Free Shop (DDFS). Prepares the EOM transfer report for the accounting department. Create items in the US Customs system that are unique to MEB, including tariff classification and determining IR rates and manufactures. For beer, wine, spirits and tobacco. Consults with the imports department on all problems and issues regarding the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) system. Generate an excel spreadsheet for the duty free shop items that are included in the Diplomatic Catalog. Maintain all US Customs and other government agencies regulations and issues.

COMPUTER SKILLS/EQUIPMENT OPERATION:

• Good computer skills: MS Office ( Word/Excel/Power Point/Outlook)

• Computer, calculator, fax machine, copier, telephone

• Background in Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and JD Edwards preferred

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Associate’s Degree (Bachelor’s Degree preferred) in business or supply chain management and/or 5 years related experience in a customs environment or as an independent contractor at freight, airport companies that transports products internationally or a combination of experience and education in related field. Customs Broker License is required.
