Position Summary: The Seasonal Farm Maintenance Helper will assist with the proper functioning and upkeep of housing units, equipment, and facilities on the farm from February through November, annually. This may involve tasks such as repairing housing issues and other farm equipment, maintaining irrigation systems, fixing fences and structures, and conducting routine inspections to identify potential issues.
Primary Responsibilities: (Must consider: 1) knowledge required; 2) problem solving; and 3) accountability.
80% 1. Housing Maintenance:
  • Assist with coordinating and performing repairs and maintenance tasks, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and grounds maintenance.
Farm Maintenance
  • Maintain exterior/interior of building and grounds as necessary.
  • Operate trucks, tractors, lift trucks and other rolling equipment as required for field/facility maintenance.
  • Operate grinders, saws, power tools, hand tools, testing devices and other shop equipment necessary to repair and maintain buildings and equipment.
10% 2. Safety and Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant housing and building regulations and all safety standards.
  • Notifies the technician, one of the farm managers, and/or HR of near misses, accidents, and potential safety issues
  • Fulfill documentation/record-keeping requirements as they relate to state and federal laws and regulations, and our Global GAP certification
5% 3. Other duties as assignedConditions Of Employment
  • Work a minimum of 40 hours per week but must be flexible and able to work extended hours per day during peak seasonal times.
  • Must be physically mobile and be able to lift 50lbs (with assistance). Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, kneel and climb as needed to repair equipment. Able to work in various weather conditions such as wet, hot, dusty, cold, and windy.
  • Must have good visual acuity (with or without corrective lenses).
  • Must comply with all John I. Haas, Inc. policies and procedures, including successful passing of pre-employment background check and drug test.
  • Must comply with our Integrated Management System (IMS) and be trained on procedures applicable to the requirements of the position, including managing significant quality, environmental, and food safety aspects.
Qualifications: ( Education/Experience/Skills required of the Position) Required
  • Experience with power tools and hand tools as related to housing, building and grounds maintenance and repairs.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, including solid verbal communication skills and success working in a team environment
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean record
Preferred
  • Experience in housing, building and grounds maintenance, , or a related field
  • Current First Aid/CPR card.
  • Basic knowledge of farm equipment and machinery operation.
