Automotive/Heavy Equipment Repair Specialist Annual Compensation: Starting at$64,694 annually to be paid bi-weekly with a Maximum of 79,251 after 4 years Additional contract increases in FY 2024 & FY2025 Additional Compensation Opportunities:
Up to $5,000 bonus for working during snow & ice removal events

THIS POSITION IS REPRESENTED BY A UNION A Brief Overview The Automotive/ Heavy Equipment Repair Specialist is responsible for performing a wide variety of mechanical repair and maintenance work which may include the repair and preventive maintenance of automotive and heavy equipment, heavy trucks, pumps, and compressors. What you will do
Operates motor vehicles and equipment as necessary for assessment and testing.
Performs maintenance and repair on various pieces of heavy equipment including, but not limited to, specialty snow removal equipment, first responder vehicles and equipment (e.g. fire trucks, ambulances), medium and heavy-duty trucks with dump boxes, cars, SUV's, plows and underbody blades, v-bottom material spreaders, skid steer tractors, high pressure pumps, tractors and trailers, backhoes, electronic message boards and signs, street sweepers, aerial towers, lifts, and grass mowing equipment.
Diagnoses, services, and repairs systems found on heavy equipment, such as mechanical and computerized electronic controls, air brake systems, computer controlled automatic transmissions, high voltage generators, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
Fabricates, modifies, and installs special equipment or replacement parts using welders, torch sets, plasma cutter and metal cutting jaws.
Performs routine maintenance checks and adjustments including, but not limited to, fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires and clutches; changes filters and oil, lubricates vehicles and motor driven equipment.
Records repairs and maintenance performed on vehicles and equipment using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Performs routine housekeeping to organize and maintain the work area, tools, and equipment in good working condition.
Uses equipment diagnostic computer software programs and manuals to determine service and repair procedures.
Performs work in compliance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the Department of Maintenance and Fleet Services.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency AND Three (3) years of full-time paid experience in the repair and maintenance of a variety of motor vehicles and heavy-duty equipment and Master Mechanic License from the State of Michigan; Or
High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency AND Four (4) years of full-time paid experience in the repair and maintenance of a variety of motor vehicles and heavy-duty equipment; AND Four (4) certifications in either category listed below: A. Automobile & Light Truck (Vehicles under 10,000# GVW): Engine Repair; Front End, Suspension and Steering Systems; Brakes and Braking Systems; Electrical Systems. B. Heavy-Duty Trucks (Vehicles over 10,000# GVW): Engine Repair - Diesel; Brakes and Braking Systems; Suspension and Steering Systems; Electrical Systems.
Valid driver's license and a safe, acceptable driving record.
