The Township of East Brunswick is accepting applications for the full-time position of Recycling Specialist/Equipment Operator within the department of Public Works. The ideal candidate will work independently and under direction of the Recycling Coordinator to perform tasks involving the maintenance of the Recycling Center. This includes maintaining the compost site, leaf collection program, and snow and ice control. The Specialist/Equipment Operator will also be responsible for collecting curbside material as needed, preparing daily logs in accordance with permits, inspecting the quality of materials, handling complaints from residents, record keeping, and other duties as assigned. May frequently operate heavy machinery such as: roll-truck, forklifts, compactors, backhoes, wheel loader, excavator, tub grinder, flatbed, bulldozer, track loader, and grader. This position requires responding to emergencies outside normal working hours.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledgeable of the methods used to collect, store, transport, and separate recyclable materials. Must be familiar with standard tools, materials, practices, occupational hazards, and safety precautions involved in performing work at the Recycling Center and Composite Site. Ability to organize and carry out routine work projects.

Experience: At least 1 year of related experience in solid waste & recycling activities.

Education: High school diploma and/or equivalent

Licensing & Certification: Must have a valid NJ driver's license, CDL Class A commercial driver’s license with proper endorsements, maintain a valid Forklift Operator License, and obtain a NJ Compost Operator Certification.
