Job Summary:
The Circulation Supervisor supervises the front-line staff at the Olin Library’s circulation desk, including scheduling shifts, writing performance reviews, and setting service standards. In addition, this employee participates in staffing the circulation desk, materials, and equipment lending, assisting library users in utilizing the digital library systems, and providing friendly service to members of the Rollins community. Off-desk duties may include billing, stacks maintenance, collection maintenance, data entry, and monitoring the building’s security and facility issues.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
  • Hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates Olin Library Circulation Department employees and student assistants. Is the primary leader of the Circulation Department.
  • Develops and implements Circulation policies and procedures. Aids in the development of general library policies and procedures.
  • Maintains an awareness of campus events and library events. In the case of any unforeseen challenges, assures that the proper people are notified.
  • Compiles and writes necessary daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports.
  • Configures and enters data into library service platforms.
  • Maintains policy and performs transactions in the circulation of library materials, reserve materials, equipment, and other library materials.
  • Responsible for library stacks maintenance and staffing of library stacks filling, weeding, and cleaning shifts.
  • Provides friendly service and general information to all library users.
  • Maintains records of fines and bills, collects fines, and is responsible for accurate handling of petty cash.
  • Maintains files and collects data from operations as directed.
  • Performs or supervises daily opening and closing operations for the library.
  • Maintains or supervises a secure presence by monitoring floor activity, responding to emergency alarms, and evacuating the building in the event of an emergency. Contacts and coordinates with Campus Safety as necessary.
  • Provides routine servicing of equipment and assists and/or instructs library users in the use of this equipment
Minimum
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1 year of library experience (public or academic).
  • Knowledge of the concept of information organization.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Knowledge of basic library procedures and policies.
  • Skill in the use of a variety of computer software used in the library system.
  • Ability to direct the work of others.
  • Ability to interact with the public effectively and courteously.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Preferred
Qualifications & Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
Work Schedule:
The Circulation Supervisor are scheduled to work 7.5 hours/day, 37.5 hours per week. The schedule for this role is:
  • Monday - Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm (with a 1 hour paid lunch)
  • Work overtime, evenings and weekends may be required based on business needs (i.e. Finals Week).
Work Environment:
  • Campus-based, front-facing customer service role.
  • Work requires physical strain while lifting and moving books
  • Work requires visual strain and the use of a computer.

Olin Library:
When Rollins College was founded in 1885, its library collection consisted of a Bible and a dictionary. Today, students have at their disposal considerable library resources ranging from ancient times to the latest technology in information retrieval. Rollins' library was housed in a few buildings before finding its current home, the Olin Library. The building features computer labs, group study rooms, classroom space, and a beautiful tower room overlooking the Rollins campus and Lake Virginia. Olin is also home to the College Archives and Special Collections, the Tutoring and Writing Center, Instructional Technology, and the Information Technology Help Desk.
