Herdt Consulting Inc is Hiring a Proposal Coordinator/Technical Writer Near Bethesda, MD

Purpose
The Proposal Coordinator/Technical Writer supports general technical writing/editing and proposal development through coordination and collaboration with Herdt and partner company technical subject matter experts (SMEs), program/project managers, and other contract support and execution resources. The ideal candidate will have proven success in a technical field, such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) integration, software development, logistics, or systems engineering. Also important is the ability to evaluate and analyze complex information provided by SMEs and communicates it to others (in writing or orally).
Job Description
The Proposal Coordinator/Technical Writer reports to the Senior Vice President (SVP). Duties include, but are not limited to:
Support/supervise technical writing and editing for Capture/Business Development (BD), proposal, and other corporate requirements. Tasks include:
Work with Herdt project leads to understand service and solution offerings. Translate complex information into simple, polished, engaging materials that meet the needs of target audience.
Research, outline, write, and edit content, working closely with various departments to understand project requirements. Develop comprehensive documentation that meets Herdt, partner, or customer standards. Write user-friendly content that turns insights into language for user success.
Gather information from SMEs and develop, organize, and write procedure manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation.
Work with development and support leads to identify and maintain documentation repositories of reference materials, including research, usability tests, and design specifications.
Evaluate current content and develop iterative methods for improvement.
Determine information architecture templates that adhere to organizational and legal standards for data compilation, secure access, and centralized storage.
Develop content in alternative media forms for maximum usability, using consistent voice across all documentation.
Support Herdt prime and partner Requests for Information (RFIs)/Sources Sought/proposal development efforts. Tasks include:
Complete Herdt response for internal and teaming partner pre-proposal and proposal data calls.
Support partner proposal development.
Maintain SharePoint repository for all active and completed Capture/BD and proposal efforts.
Support Herdt (Shipley-based) Capture/BD processes. Tasks include:
Develop written materials to support Herdt and bidding partner Capture actions.
Develop presentations, fact sheets, and other materials to communicate Herdt’s core capabilities to existing and potential clients and partners.
Maintain the Capture/BD pipeline. Tasks include:
Maintain Herdt’s Growth SharePoint site and opportunity dashboard.
Draft Capture/BD Decision Gate Review packages for presentation to Herdt leadership.
Develop and manage relevant materials for Capture/BD and pre-proposal activities to position Herdt for upcoming solicitations.
Experience/Education Requirements:
Two or more years of experience as an effective technical writer
Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex subject matter
Experience in writing documentation and procedure manuals for various audiences
Possess superb written communication and exceptional time management skills, a keen eye for detail, and be adaptable to a wide range of challenges.
Experience in working with engineers to improve user experience (e.g., design, UI), refine content, and create visuals and diagrams for technical support content
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously and to work collaboratively across all levels of the company.
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in journalism, communications, or relevant technical field.
Firm understanding of one or more of the following: software development (systems development lifecycle (SDLC), data analytics/business intelligence, systems testing and integration, solution architecture, data migration, cybersecurity) and/or business solution field (e.g., finance, audit readiness, logistics, supply chain management, business process and business process improvement, organizational change management, training, or strategic planning).
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 suite of tools and applications, to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, etc.
Experience with desktop publishing tools, such as MS Publisher or Adobe InDesign is highly desired.
Society for Technical Communication and/or APMP Foundation (CF APMP) or higher certification is highly desired.
Trained and experienced in applying Shipley or other formal proposal lifecycle processes.
Secret or higher clearance (at a minimum, must be clearable to Secret or above level).
