Recovery Therapist
Annual Salary: $48,000
Job Summary: To provide assessment, group therapy, individual and family counseling and general recovery support to LGBTQ adults with substance use issues in the behavioral health program. The IOP therapist will be expected to use advanced knowledge of recovery principles for assessment and treatment of individuals with alcohol and drug use and/or dependency. Active participation with recovery team to coordinate care.
Communication: Good oral and written communication skills are required for this position. The person in this position must be able to communicate effectively with the clients, staff, and others; and contribute to a positive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts clinical assessments, including gathering relevant information with regard to history, symptoms, behavioral patterns and evaluate the nature and extent of alcohol and substance use, including diagnosis and level of care recommendations using ASAM criteria.
  • Develops clinical content for group sessions designed for LGBTQ individuals struggling with alcohol and substance use that includes -- a psycho-educational component, creative elements, community-based recovery connection and any other means of engaging individuals in intensive recovery treatment.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in telehealth platforms and in-person service delivery.
  • Implements treatment planning that is in accordance with funders' expectations; treatment plans must include - objectives, specific interventions, individual strengths and challenges, and appropriate diagnoses. Must also include any progress over time.
  • Facilitates effective therapeutic interventions in group, family and individual dynamic, as directed by collaborative goals; and must effectively engage clients using best practice techniques.
  • Identifies strengths and challenges to recovery and demonstrates flexibility in adjusting goals and objectives accordingly. Effectively manages crises according to Mazzoni Center policy and appropriate clinical practice guidelines.
  • Participates in recovery team meetings utilizing internal and external resources to aid in meeting recovery goals.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation in compliance with contract, funder and agency requirements, including progress notes, treatment plans and assessments.
  • Coordinates care with other service providers as necessary to enhance the effectiveness of client care.
  • Ensures demographic and service encounter data is input into EMR in timely manner.
  • Utilizes good and timely communication skills when updating and communicating with management.
  • Adheres to agency policy and procedures outlined in manual.
  • Protects client and agency information at all times, adhering to agency Confidentiality Policy, HIPAA as well as other laws governing privacy/disclosure.
  • Participates in clinical supervision as scheduled, attend departmental meetings as scheduled and attend other meetings as assigned.
  • Maintains licensure and credentialing with insurance, including CAQH.
  • Works flexible hours, including some evenings.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Education, Training, License and Certification, Skills and Experience:
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution with a focus/major in psychology, social work, or counseling.
  • Direct experience providing substance use recovery services.
  • Professional license active in PA (LCSW or LPC).
  • Must complete mandatory trainings: ASAM, CPR, First Aid, Narcan, HIV, Confidentiality, TB/STI and other trainings as assigned. Annual trainings will be outlined in Professional Development Plan and will include 25 hours of training.
  • Must be culturally competent to work with groups from diverse racial, educational, socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations and gender identities.
  • Knowledge of and experience with managed care preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; attention to detail. Strong organizational skills; and computer literacy.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively, taking initiative, to meet deadlines.
  • Must work well with a multi-disciplinary team

  • The ability to efficiently move around a city location on a regular basis.
  • The ability to communicate using written and verbal or signed language.
  • The ability to lift objects greater than 35 pounds.
  • The ability to use a computer for up to 6 hours per day.
  • The ability to work in an environment with a moderate noise level, in an open cubicle setting.
  • Must have all necessary vaccinations pursuant to Mazzoni Center policies.
Clearances:
  • Background checks are required, including Criminal Background Clearance, Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI Clearance.
