Full-time Insurance Billing Clerk in our Revenue Cycle Department that will perform a variety of duties including but not limited to: Professional Billing, Denials, Edits, Insurance follow-up on professional billing. Will work closely with Insurance companies, medical terminology background needed. Full-time benefits include: IPERS, Health, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and Long-Term Disability and PTO accrual begins first day of employment. Maternal & Paternity benefits.

Job Title:  Professional Billing Clerk

Primary Function and Relationship to Total Organization

Performs a variety of duties, such as, but not limited to: Professional Billing, Denials, Edits, Insurance follow up on professional billing

Reports to:  Revenue Cycle Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Answers telephone calls and fax requests.
  2. Assists patients, physicians, coworkers and associates with various questions and problems.
  3. Matches charges with proper patient account, keeping in mind compliance issues and payor billing regulations.
  4. Input charge codes for new items, revising charges, if necessary, for patient billable items.
  5. Works with departments to improve charging processes to avoid missed or incorrect charges.
  6. Identifies payment errors, following up with insurance companies, patients, or other billing staff to resolve the error.
  7. Performs other duties within the department when called upon.
  8.  Attends and participates in in-service programs.
  9.  Maintains patient confidentiality.
  10.  Informs the department manager(s) of problems.
  11.  Assists others in various functions when the department manager(s) are absent.

Minimum educational requirements

High school education is required, must have medical terminology and anatomy background. Professional billing experience recommended. EPIC experience preferred.

Work environment.

  1. Must be able to read, write and communicate with coworkers and patient/ clients.
  2. Must have good communication skills, both written and oral.
  3. Must be able to handle several tasks at the same time.
