Lab Manager/Instructor of Physics

Wofford College invites applications for a Lab Manager/Instructor of Physics (nine-month
contract) to begin on August 15, 2024. At Wofford College, the commitment of the faculty to
teach and mentor students is an essential component to the success of the institution. Working
in the Department of Physics, the Lab Manager/Instructor of Physics will be responsible for
managing labs and the corresponding lab equipment and will be actively engaged in teaching
and working with students.
EXPECTATIONS
The Lab Manager/Instructor of Physics will serve in a dual role that primarily involves managing
the department’s introductory labs with the opportunity to teach introductory courses and
their corresponding labs. This position will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining the
physics labs in a structured and sustainable manner. Job duties include managing the lab
schedule, setting up and breaking down lab experiments, repairing or replacing damaged
equipment, maintaining experiments, overseeing the departmental lab Moodle page and
managing departmental demonstration lab equipment. The successful candidate will assist in
managing lab equipment for our Electronics and Advanced labs. The Lab Manager/Instructor of
Physics will also work with students in the classroom and the laboratory. The teaching of
lectures and labs at the introductory level is expected. The instructor teaching load includes two
four-credit lab courses and one additional lab per year in addition to the duties of the lab
manager role. This is a nine-month non-tenured position with the expectation of renewal.
QUALIFICATIONS
A master’s degree in physics or closely related field is required. Preference will be given to
candidates with some teaching experience and demonstrated ability to manage and maintain
labs.
