Anesthesia Coding and Billing Specialist for Endoscopy Center

Job Overview:

The Anesthesia Coding and Billing Specialist for an Endoscopy Center is responsible for accurately coding and billing anesthesia services provided during endoscopic procedures. This role ensures that all services are correctly documented and billed in compliance with healthcare regulations to optimize reimbursement and maintain accurate financial records.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
    • Certification in medical coding (CPC, COC, CCS, or equivalent) (required).
    • Certification in anesthesia coding (CANPC) (preferred).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical coding and billing (required).
    • Experience specifically in anesthesia coding and billing (required).
    • Familiarity with endoscopic procedures and associated anesthesia services (preferred).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Medical Coding:
    • Accurately assign CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes to anesthesia services provided during endoscopic procedures.
    • Ensure proper documentation and coding for all types of anesthesia, including general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care (MAC).
    • Stay updated with changes in coding standards and healthcare regulations.
  • Billing:
    • Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, and other third-party payers.
    • Verify patient insurance coverage and secure prior authorizations when necessary.
    • Follow up on unpaid or denied claims, handle appeals, and correct billing issues.
    • Communicate with insurance companies to resolve any discrepancies.
  • Compliance:
    • Ensure all coding and billing practices adhere to federal and state regulations and payer-specific policies.
    • Conduct regular audits to maintain accuracy and compliance in coding and billing procedures.
    • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  • Documentation:
    • Ensure comprehensive and accurate documentation of patient records.
    • Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure documentation supports the codes assigned and billed.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with healthcare providers, administrative staff, and insurance companies to streamline billing processes.
    • Provide education and training to staff on proper coding and billing procedures.
    • Serve as a point of contact for billing-related inquiries from patients or staff.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems.
    • Proficiency with medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR).
    • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions:

  • Typically works in an office setting within an endoscopy center.
  • Full-time position, with possible need for overtime during peak periods.
  • May require occasional travel for training or professional development.

Reporting:

  • Reports to the Billing Manager or Practice Manager.

Collaborates with healthcare providers, administrative staff, and the billing department.
