With over 500 undergraduate and graduate students, Fredonia's School of Music is the preeminent music program in the SUNY system. Its international reputation is reflected in Grammy and Downbeat award-winning students, faculty, and alumni, and one of the campus's highest retention rates. The School of Music is home to numerous faculty and staff members dedicated to providing students with engaging and meaningful opportunities. Our array of NASM-accredited programs includes undergraduate degrees in music education, music performance, music therapy, music composition, and sound recording technology, with graduate degrees offered in music education, music performance, music therapy, and music composition. We engage our campus and surrounding communities through initiatives such as Fredonia Ukulele, Fredonia Street Piano Project, The Robert Jordan Piano Festival, African Drumming classes, World Mallet and Gamelan Ensembles, and an annual Rockfest that includes local high school bands, music education student bands, and university faculty/staff rock bands. These are among more than 400 public events we present each year, most of which are live streamed. Job Description:
The State University of New York at Fredonia is seeking a full-time Lecturer in Tuba/Euphonium. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach applied lessons, pedagogy, recital seminar, group tuba/euphonium class for music majors, tuba/euphonium ensembles and tuba/euphonium courses for non-tuba/euphonium -majors. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and collegial team of faculty and staff who are committed to expanding the boundaries of music in higher education, by not only innovating within existing contexts but also envisioning and enacting new practices informed by critical dialogue and thoughtful engagement with stakeholders within and beyond the school. Our new colleague will help us navigate the shifting landscape of higher education through their contributions to generating change, taking risks, inventing new opportunities, and exploring new ideas and approaches. This is a full-time, temporary, 10-month position, beginning on or before August 20, 2024. Some evening and weekend work will be required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Dean of the School of Music, the successful candidate will:
Teach undergraduate and graduate studio lessons in tuba/euphonium;
Contribute to development and revision of courses and curricula, in music performance generally and tuba/euphonium specifically, to reflect diverse and contemporary theory and practice;
Support student retention and success through academic advising and efforts toward inclusion and belonging;
Be active as a recruiter for the School of Music;
Participate in building and maintaining relationships with prospective undergraduate and graduate students through recruitment and alumni relations;
Maintain and build relationships with schools, teachers, alumni, and community partners in the area and across the state.
Participate in committees and provide service to the performance area, School of Music, university, and profession; and
Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in a relevant discipline;
Experience teaching undergraduate students;
Innovative and creative approaches to music making, pedagogy, and leadership;
Ability and desire to support student needs across multiple School of Music degree programs (i.e. jazz studies, music composition, music education, music performance, music therapy, sound recording technology);
Facility with multiple genres;
Commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of campus and school missions.
Demonstrated excellence in performance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline (or ABD);
Three years teaching experience at the collegiate level;
Demonstrated engagement with pedagogical practices, artistic practices, and/or research frameworks that advance music in higher education practice toward diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and accessibility and can inform course offerings across our curriculum;
Demonstrated experience mentoring undergraduate students in pursuing independent creative activities;
Demonstrated abilities making and teaching music within and beyond Western classical-based practices;
Record of creative activity, research, and/or scholarship demonstrating experience in the field and potential for further productivity.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, non-tenure-track Lecturer position beginning Fall 2024, with a salary of $48,396 - $50,000.
