Job Summary
The Center of Online Learning at Columbus State University seeks an Instructional Designer and Training Specialist to work with faculty and staff in the planning, development, support, and evaluation of online and hybrid courses to incorporate best practices in the scholarship of teaching and learning, accessibility, and copyright law. Reporting to the Director of the Center of Online Learning (COOL), this position creates engaging and equitable learning experiences for students by providing real-time support, consultation on course design and delivery, technology-integration support, and training and development opportunities for faculty and staff. We seek a collaborative, relationship-oriented, and impact-driven team member who can assist faculty in helping faculty realize their creative teaching ideas in our Learning Management System (D2L).
Activities include sharing expertise in the application of best practices in teaching and learning to course design and delivery including Universal Design of Learning, facilitating peer teaching observations of online/hybrid courses, reviewing online/hybrid courses for compliance with ADA and WCAG standards, onboarding new faculty to our LMS, providing real-time support for faculty and staff, collaborating with campus partners such as Accessibility Instructional Specialists, Center for Accommodations and Access, and Faculty Center for Excellence of Teaching and Learning to design and deliver faculty development programs. All duties will be performed in accordance with all US state and federal laws and regulation, the University System of Georgia and Columbus State University policies and procedures. This is not a remote position.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Develop and provide training opportunities to assist faculty in learning, practicing, and developing pedagogical theory and skills related to web-based instruction and technology, including Universal Design of Learning
  • Collaborate with Accessibility Instructional Specialist to develop and design training opportunities to assist faculty in ensuring accessibility of their course materials
  • Review online courses/programs and make recommendations
  • Create reference materials (help documents, how-to guides, videos, courses, and other similar items) that prepare faculty, staff, and students to use the college's Learning Management System and related technologies
  • Provide assistance and technical support to faculty, staff, and students utilizing the college's Learning Management System and related technologies
  • Serve on committees as needed; perform duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in education, instructional design, educational technology, adult learning, curriculum development, or a related field; experience in instructional design, educational technology, training and development, and accessibility, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; experience with students with diverse backgrounds and abilities; knowledge and experience with designing and delivering training and development opportunities, preferable in a higher education setting; and knowledge of a Learning Management System, preferrably D2L, and integrating educational tehcnologies within the LMS.
The successful candidate must also be accustomed to leading and managing multiple projects simultaneously, while remaining detail-oriented and organized; demonstrate the ability to collaborate with people from a wide variety of skill sets and backgrounds via written and oral communication; and posess the ability to work effectively and flexibly in an impact driven environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include teaching experience in higher education, experience in higher education curriculum design and learning outcomes assessments, knowledge of LMS and online learning tools, knowledge and understanding of ADA accessibility regulations and WCAC guidelines, and experience working collaboratively with faculty on distance or hybrid course design.
Proposed Salary
The annualized salary range for this position is $43,503 - $48,941 and includes full benefits.
