JOB SUMMARY

To provide educational services and coordinate all necessary testing and documents for special education students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Fosters an educational environment conducive to learning.
  • Assist teachers with planning instruction designed to meet individual student needs and whole groups which may include traumatized or special needs youth.
  • Ensures the curriculum is culturally sensitive.
  • Participates in developing the IEP process and monitoring student education plan.
  • Ensures the teaching staff uses necessary and appropriate instructional methods and materials suited to the student's well-being and to the nature of the learning activities.
  • Establishes a positive and supportive manner, classroom policies and procedures governing student behavior and conduct; provides guidance, counseling, and discipline to encourage students to meet standards of achievement and conduct; makes referrals for assistance where appropriate.
  • Confers with students, parents or guardians, and other staff, maintaining an open positive relationship as appropriate to provide guidance and evaluation, and to encourage student achievement. Regular in-person attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Will attend IEP meetings, re-evaluation meetings, and update meetings; will also give support with potential student “Tours and Interviews”
  • Maintains up-to-date records, IEP changes, and student academic evaluations
  • Participates in staff meetings.
  • Participate in all required In-Services/ Professional Developments.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Principal/Assistant Director of Education

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education/Training

  • Requires a bachelor's degree, and a Wisconsin teaching certificate.
  • Special Education certified in EBD or cross-category in Special Education
  • Previous experience working with emotionally and behaviorally disturbed (EBD) students or traumatized adolescent populations.
  • 2 to 3 years of successful classroom behavior management experience.

Skills

  • Must be able to work with students positively and confidently; be fair and consistent when working with a culturally, racially, and economically diverse student population.
  • Able to adapt to change, be flexible and confident.
  • Must possess knowledge of special education and the ability to ensure IEPs are implemented and IEP services are provided.
  • Must be present on the IEP team.
