Reports To: Director of Facilities
Position Goal: To help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.
Pay Rate: $25.69 per hour

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Other duties may be assigned. The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties:
  1. Constructs, assembles, alters, repairs and maintains woodwork, furniture and wooden and metal equipment as assigned.
  2. Builds and installs cabinets, shelves, bookcases, as planned and instructed.
  3. Orders any materials and supplies required to perform the assigned jobs.
  4. Maintains equipment and shop area in a clean, safe and orderly condition.
  5. Reports to maintenance foreman any situations requiring maintenance attention for the purpose of preventive maintenance.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee. This job description does not constitute an exhaustive list of responsibilities and management may revise it at any time.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE :
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Previous experience as a carpenter preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Pennsylvania Operator's License. Journeyperson or masters.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  1. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, wiring diagrams and technical and procedure manuals.
  2. Ability to communicate scope of work and plans of actions to management, building administrators, custodians and maintenance personnel.
  3. Ability to complete work order forms, time sheets, and other departmental forms.
  4. Ability to plan, measure and layout jobs.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  1. Ability to calculate figures and amounts utilizing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  2. Ability to compute areas, circumference, length, width, depth and volume.
  3. Ability to calculate percentages discounts and total costs.
REASONING ABILITY:
  1. Ability to collect/compile information to determine appropriate course of action.
  2. Ability to adapt to unforeseen field conditions.
  3. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES :
  1. Ability to read blueprints.
  2. Ability to drive all district vehicles.
  3. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
  5. Ability to speak clearly and concisely in oral and written communication.
  6. Ability to operate district vehicles.
  7. Ability to remain current on new procedures, materials, equipment and techniques.
  8. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crawl, balance; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, perform work overhead and work from ladders and scaffolding. Work involves exposure to unpleasant elements, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions, and may include the use of protective gear. The employee must frequently move and/or lift up to 100 pounds such as materials and equipment. Specific vision capabilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to hear conversations in noisy environments. The employee must be able to drive all district vehicles. The employee is responsible to provide for the safety and well being of those within the immediate vicinity of where the essential functions of the job are being performed.
