Job Description:

Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by preparing and maintaining athletic fields for student athlete practice and competition and other University events.

Salary: $15.50/hour or more depending on experience.

Essential Functions

* Prepares and maintains athletic fields for practices and games, to include marking fields and setting up equipment, using irrigation systems, and cleaning up body fluid spills according to prescribed procedures.

* Collects and removes trash, litter, and recycling from campus grounds.

* Performs tasks related to University events including set up, clean up, and tear down.

* As qualified, operates grounds maintenance equipment, to include lawnmowers, leaf blowers, snow blowers, and other equipment.

* Removes snow and ice from steps, roads, walkways, athletic fields, and elsewhere on campus

* Performs preventive maintenance on assigned tools and equipment.

* Upon successfully completing training and upon approval, drives University vehicles to include pickup trucks, golf carts, and light utility vehicles.

* Assists with custodial tasks to include sweeping, mopping, cleaning windows, collecting trash and recyclables, cleaning bathroom appliances, moving furniture, and transporting items to collection points.

* Assists with cleaning, buffing, or shampooing floors and carpets.

* Assists with grounds keeping tasks to include mowing lawns and pruning or trimming trees and vegetation.

* Performs associated Facilities Operations maintenance work as qualified.

* Performs all tasks in a safe manner in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures.

* Works cooperatively with others as part of a team or independently with minimal supervision.

Other Functions

* Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.

* Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.

* Uses computers, telephones, and job-related equipment.

* Speaks, reads, and writes in English.

* Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.

* Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

* High school diploma or equivalent; or two years of related experience; vocational training a plus

* Experience maintaining natural and synthetic athletic fields a plus

* Valid state driver's license

* Able to sit, stand, kneel, squat, reach, push, pull, and use hands and fingers to manipulate related equipment; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus; lift 100 pounds Must be able to push or pull up to 150 pounds on a wheeled device, and use hands and fingers to operate basic grounds tools or machinery

* Some evening, early morning, and weekend work required.
