Novelis Guthrie Manufacturing Facility is Hiring an Electrical Engineer- Automation Near Guthrie, KY

Position Overview:

Novelis – Guthrie, KY is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join Novelis for our recently announced expansion/greenfield start-up Recycle Center in Guthrie, KY. The Automation Engineer is responsible for managing systems engineering in automation and computer systems to achieve the Manufacturing Unit's safety, quality, and cost objectives.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Work on Level I and some Level II (process automation) to meet the needs of the facility
    • Test, maintain, program, and troubleshoot automated equipment utilizing PLC, DCS, SCADA and HMI-based platforms 
    • Program and troubleshoot plant data historian system (PI) and associated hardware and software systems 
  • Support work pertaining to electrical / automation systems including MCCs and VFDs
  • Support operations and maintenance with troubleshooting and training
    • Assist and lead maintenance in diagnosing equipment problems and recommend methods to prevent reoccurrence
    • Analyze and diagnose root causes of problems and failures recommending and providing solutions to maximize uptime
    • Set up and maintain work procedures and troubleshooting processes for automation systems
  • Manage projects including defining scope, maintaining budgets, and overseeing contractors
  • Develop scope of work from customer input
  • Maintain and control project activities, timeline, and budget
  • Work with procurement group for specification, inquiry, bid analysis, and ordering
  • Supervise contractors during project and provide overall project guidance
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, Process, and Operations to maintain and continually improve processes and systems
  • Maintain the integrity of engineering drawings, files, project and equipment archives along with updating deficiencies as they arise
  • Keep current with the ever-changing technology, balancing it with the needs of the operations to bring forth improvements in process control, process automation, and process management systems and methods

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science or engineering field relevant to automation application or relevant work experience (7 years)
  • At least three years of manufacturing experience (preferably in heavy industry such as mining or metals)
  • Safety oriented and willing to intervene
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Project management and demonstrated self-motivation
  • Automation Level I work experience, preferably Allen Bradley, to include: programming, navigating existing programs/troubleshooting, and familiarity with hardware
  • Experience in PLC systems, Allen Bradley / Studio 5000 is preferred
  • Experience in building client/server applications HMI/SCADA systems (prefer FactoryTalk)
  • Electrical systems knowledge or experience, MCCs (prefer AB intelliCenter), VFDs, control voltage circuits, transformers, etc.
  • Experienced with electrical troubleshooting equipment (i.e. multimeter)
  • Working knowledge of common sensors & switches (thermocouples, UV detectors, limit switches, etc.)
  • Ability to understand electrical drawings / schematics
  • Prefer knowledge of AutoCAD or equivalent
  • Experience with natural gas furnaces / burner systems is a plus

Novelis’ Guthrie facility is located in Guthrie Kentucky approximately 30 minutes from the Tennessee state line near Clarksville Tennessee and Hopkinsville Kentucky. As Novelis’ newest facility Guthrie will house a heat treatment and pretreatment line that will serve the North American automotive market and employ 125 residents. In addition to hunting fishing and hiking residents enjoy the Guthrie Transportation Museum which is the hub of the city’s renewal efforts.
