POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible to facilitate the patient registration flow, including such activities as point of service patient identification; gathering demographic information; securing and verifying financial and third-party data; obtaining required signatures and documents needed for compliance and appropriately collecting co-payment and reconciling cash. This position will also receive Emergency patient arrivals and work with other departments to ensure flow for the patient under protocol. May also be responsible for appropriately directing incoming patient calls via electronic encounter or transfer to the care team; manage appointment calls in a timely manner while ensuring scheduling will meet the needs of our patients. Position requires a high level of customer service skills; ability to multitask under stressful situations while establishing positive relationships with co-workers and patients. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

• High School diploma or GED required; AA degree or a certification in the healthcare field strongly preferred.
• One year customer service experience required; healthcare field preferred.
• One year of computer experience required; electronic health record preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Answer and process incoming and outgoing phone calls efficiently and politely.
• Create and distribute patient medical messages to appropriate care teams.
• Obtain and accurately enter patient demographics' information into electronic medical record.
• Schedule patient appointment appropriately based on patient request, visit reason and availability.
• Sort and distribute mail via internal routing.
• Utilize various reports to ensure annual visit tracking.
• Verify insurance benefits and explain, when necessary, plan details and restrictions.
• Safeguard security and confidentiality of data and information according to HIPAA guidelines.
• Maintain and update provider schedules as requested.
• Assume responsibility for completing mandatory upgrade trainings.
• Obtain patient signature on required documents and consent form to ensure billing.
• Verify and scan insurance and personal identification cards into electronic medical record.
• Understand the contents of a patient chart to extract documents for Release of Information.
• Knowledge of specialty providers and the referral process for appropriate scheduling.
• Collect all required co-pays or payments required prior to visit and balance a cash drawer.
• Receive patients in a timely manner.
• Bed side registration to obtain demographics and insurance information.
• Obtain all accident information to insure accurate third-party billing.
• Required to travel to other clinic locations to provide adequate coverage including Saturdays.
• Verify patient identity.
• Create in-patient folders in coordination with nursing staff.
• Report safety hazards as appropriate.
• Coordinate with outreach clinics, obtain documents and ensure proper scheduling on their behalf.
• Ability to stay calm under stress while providing a professional patient experience.
• Cancel and confirm patient appointments via manual and automatic reminder calls.
• Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with co-workers, supervisors, patients, and others.
