Roles & Responsibilities:As a member of MITRE’s Health Innovation Center, you would provide support to MITRE health policy analysts supporting the likes of Department of Health and Human Services and other Federal Civilian Agencies as needed. This position requires a basic understanding in health policy (discerning and identifying implications of policy or regulatory choices, projected outcomes, sector impacts, etc.), public health, health information technology, privacy, and other health-related government initiatives. Experience drafting or interpreting regulations will significantly help the candidate succeed in this role.

• Policy analysis in support of federal health program implementations.
• Reviewing statutes, regulations, and guidance documents to determine impacts to HHS programs.
• Writing regulations and understanding regulatory burden.
• Developing technical products such as research papers, briefing papers, and recommendations for program implementation.
• Analyzing HHS policies, processes, and health care strategies to facilitate effective MITRE support to HHS.

Basic Qualifications:

• Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
• Knowledge of state and federal public health laws and regulation processes
• Basic understanding in health policy (discerning and identifying implications of policy or regulatory choices, projected outcomes, sector impacts)
• Basic understanding of public health, health information technology, privacy, and other health-related government initiatives
• Sustained excellence in academic performance.
• Subject matter expertise in health policy, health analytics, public health, health information technology, and other health-related government initiatives.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ideal candidates have already completed BA/BS and currently pursuing a graduate degree in program related to healthcare (in public policy or health sciences field).
• 1-2 years’ experience in the area of health policy at the federal, state or local level, developing, designing and implementing healthcare policies and programs, and providing healthcare thought leadership, or work in the health care sector, administrative, clinical, or information systems.
• Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• Capability in another health domain area (e.g., communication, analytics, information technology).
• Proficiency with data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, NVivo).
• Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams.
• Experience drafting or interpreting regulations
