    SUMMARY
    Works the day or night shift at an assigned school site and performs custodial and light general work with minimum supervision.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Other duties may be assigned.
    Disinfects sinks, toilets, urinals, walls, partitions etc.
    Performs a variety of custodial duties such as mopping, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, disinfecting etc.
    Sets up and takes down furniture and equipment for meetings and other events.
    Performs simpler ongoing preventive maintenance.
    Makes simple general maintenance repairs.
    Works with staff to maintain a safe and secure environment in the school building and on the school grounds.
    Responds to burglar and fire alarms.
    Empties trash and garbage containers.
    Maintains inventory of custodial and maintenance supplies, tools and equipment.
    Shovels and plows snow.
    Performs basic Groundskeeper duties.
    Maintains simple work-related records and prepares various reports as directed.
    Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds, such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks.
    Must be able to work overtime on short notice or when scheduled work is required. This will include the need, if required, for snow removal.
    Assists maintenance personnel.
    Assists with on the job training of new custodians and substitute custodians.
    Must have valid drivers license.
    Performs related work as required.
    Knowledge of:
    Operation of various light equipment (wet/dry vacuum, buffing machine, stripper)
    Operation of various hand tools (brooms, mops, dusters)
    Cleaning supplies and equipment
    Groundskeeping practices
    Building practices and procedures
    Simple maintenance
    Email systems and usage
    Basic computer skills and software knowledge
    Ability to:
    Understand and follow oral and written directions
    Print, speak and understand English.
    Operate various light equipment (wet/dry vacuum, buffing machine, stripper)
    Operate various hand cleaning tools (brooms, mops, dusters)
    Operate various hand tools for light maintenance (hammer, screwdriver, wrenches)
    Perform or Contact supervisor for repairs when needed.
    Maintain inventory and simple records.
    Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
    Interact with students, staff and the community.
    Ability to perform duties with a minimum of supervision.
    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
    Equivalent to graduation from high school and two years prior experience as custodian or worker preferred.
    LANGUAGE SKILLS
    Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak and understand English language.
    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
    Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
    REASONING ABILITY
    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk.
    The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lb. such as salt and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
