About the role
- Casa Esperanza Inc. is seeking an On-Call Cook to cover holidays, vacations and unexpected call outs. The Kitchen Assistant role is a per diem position. Typical hours are 6am-2pm depending on program needs. Hours are not guaranteed. The Kitchen Assistant plans and prepares three healthy meals per day for approximately 75 individuals. S/He also ensures that a variety of healthy snacks are available to residents throughout the day. It requires an availability from Monday to Sunday from 6am to 2pm.
What you'll do
- Skill in cooking and preparing a variety of foods.
- Knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality standards.
- Ability to organize and coordinate the purchase of food, supplies and equipment needed to prepare 3 meals per day and make healthy snacks available for up to 75 individuals.
- Ability to safely use all kitchen equipment and supplies.
- Ability to accept receipt of goods and supplies.
- Ability to gather data, compile information, prepare reports, and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to manage others in a kitchen environment, ensuring safety and quality meal preparation.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of food preparation and kitchen management experience, preparing meals for 75 guests per meal.
- SERV Safe certified or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Experience preparing Latin American cuisine is required.
- Minimum high school diploma or GED required
- CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Participates in regular training with regard to nutrition and healthy meal preparation

Structured Outpatient Addictions Program (SOAP): Familias Unidas Outpatient Services is a licensed, CARF-accredited clinic that provides client-centered, integrated services to support the complex, long-term needs of people with co-occurring disorders. Familias is co-located with primary care services and is the only Spanish-language SOAP in Greater Boston. Supportive Housing: Nueva Vida provides15 single-occupancy units, Dunmore Place & 300 Eustis Street provides eight family units, and Nueva Esperanza provides 14 individual studio units for a total of 37 units of permanent safe, sober housing for individuals and families, with on-site support for maintaining recovery and building independent living skills. Clinical Stabilization: Conexiones is a structured 24-hour inpatient clinical stabilization program for individuals early in their recovery which includes nursing care, individual and group therapy, psycho-educational groups, case management, health education, and aftercare planning.
