Job Summary

The position of Camp Director is responsible for supervising the daily activities of the SCF STEM Camp. The Camp Director will develop and monitor camp activities to meet camp goals. Will serve as a positive role model to youth campers and staff. Will supervise the Camp Instructors, Camp Assistants and all camp volunteers in camp activities including but not limited to STEM activities, set up, clean up, transportation, field trips, guest speaker presentations, maintenance of facilities, equipment and supplies, and activity scheduling maintenance to ensure a consistent and high-quality learning experience through rigorous camper engagement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Applicants may be asked to demonstrate any or all of the following duties:

  • Provides overall supervision of camp staff and daily activities ensuring a consistent and high-quality learning experience through rigorous camper engagement. Oversees and facilitates camper disciplinary remediation as necessary between camp staff and campers/parents.
  • Develops and directs camp activities to meet camp goals. These activities will include but not be limited to coding, LEGO robotics, Minecraft, game design, drones, 3D printing, circuits, electronics, technology, and entrepreneurship.
  • Manages camp facilities, equipment, and supplies, ensuring safe working order and quantities to accommodate class sizes.
  • Coordinates supplemental camp activities such as field trips and guest speakers, including details for transportation, security/safety, and waivers/documentation.
  • Monitors the safety of campers and camp staff at all times including implementation of sanitization/cleaning protocols as required by the CDC and/or the local health department.
  • Assists with promotion of the SCF STEM Camp by ensuring documentation of camp activities using traditional, digital, and electronic media/processes. Generates camper recruitment efforts when needed. Initiates press contacts as appropriate collaborating with the Director, Coding Academy.
  • Evaluates and documents the success of each camp week through collaborative debriefings with camp staff, campers, parents, sponsors, and guest speakers to ensure quality programming and facilitate enhanced future camp planning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college and two or more years related experience and/or training. Prefer applicants with experience working with youth ranging from 3rd grade to 9th grade in a structured learning program. Prefer applicants with teaching experience in STEM curriculum.
  • Supervisory Experience:
One to three years of supervisory experience, including responsibility for training and coaching is preferred.
  • Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret texts, periodicals, journals, equipment instructions and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from campers, parents, sponsors, SCF staff, and the public.
  • Math Ability:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, chart or schedule form.
  • Computer Skills:
Microsoft Office experience is preferred. Experience in computer coding and programming, robotics, Minecraft, game design, and 3D printing processes is preferred.
  • Certificates and Licenses:
None required.
Responsibility for People and Property:
Oversees the camp staff in their daily camp activities with campers, parents, sponsors, and guest
speakers. Maintains camp equipment, facilities and supplies in safe working order.
Responsibility for Communication:
  • Internal Contacts:
Routine contact with all levels of SCF STEM Camp students, parents, and staff.
  • External Contacts:
Contact with camp visitors, sponsors, guest speakers, and occasional visitors touring SCF facilities.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to above average due to electronic devices such as drones, 3D printers and other camp equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to use manual dexterity, talk, and hear. The employees will be on their feet frequently and required to walk, reach with arms and hands, and lift to 15 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
