Benefits / Payroll Coordinator

Job Summary

The Benefits / Payroll Coordinator is responsible for benefits administration and supports the Payroll Manager with accurate and timely processing of Cullman Regional’s biweekly payroll.

The coordinator assists with the development, coordination, communication, and administration of employee benefits programs including self-funded medical, dental, vision insurance plans, flexible spending, disability, life and other plans, including all employee leave programs.

The incumbent will respond to management and employees by answering and researching benefits and payroll inquiries, resolving issues or concerns, and determining and implementing systems modifications as needed.

Proactively reviews benefit plans, addresses questions, and responds to complex claim issues. Partners with benefit vendors to identify issues, find solutions and acts to achieve customer expectations.

This role requires a deep commitment to customer service and an elevated level of responsiveness.

Job Duties

  • Performs benefits and payroll duties of a complex and confidential nature.
  • Serves as the main contact for Benefits and backs up / supports Cullman Regional’s Payroll Manager and HR / Payroll system.
  • Creates, updates, and maintains benefit plans
  • Assists with the preparation and processes biweekly payroll, collaborates with managers and employees to ensure accuracy
  • Conducts benefit orientation meetings as part of the onboarding process
  • Processes all short- and long-term disability claims through the STD / LTD vendor. employee personal leave administration
  • Ensures compliance with all aspects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA)
  • Creates benefits and payroll reports as needed, conducts research, analyze, and help resolve any inconsistencies and provides supporting details for specific benefits situations
  • Review and submits payment requests for health and other insurance provider invoices
  • Delivers benefits information, updates website, and ensures presentations are up to date with correct information. Drafts and edits benefits documents, presentations, and graphic displays.
  • Interacts and collaborates with individuals at all levels within the organization to provide detailed benefit plan responses
  • Administration of annual Open Enrollment process, benefit arrears and invoice reconciliations
  • Educates employees in planning, selection, and utilization of disability benefits through written communication, meetings, and one-to-one individualized assistance.
  • Collaborates with benefit providers, insurance brokers, and other vendors to facilitate smooth service delivery and renewal of benefits
  • Updates HR and benefits-related communications, including policies, procedures, and employee notices
  • Handle other projects and tasks as needed

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • 3 years minimum Benefits and Payroll experience required; self-funded benefits administration experience within a healthcare setting preferred
  • Knowledge of HRIS / Payroll software, preferably Paycom
  • Associate degree preferred or equivalent experience
  • Intermediate to advanced user of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written communications
  • Ability to work individually and as a team member
  • Ability to meet deadlines while working in a challenging environment
  • Basic knowledge of federal and state regulations related to employee benefits
