he East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) is a public Career and Technical Education District (CTED) providing tuition-free career and technical education (CTE) programs to high school students – public, charter, and home-schooled – and tuition-based programs to adults who reside in 11 school districts in the East Valley of the Phoenix metropolitan area.
EVIT offers over 40 CTE programs at four centralized campuses. Centralized campus programs provide two to four hours of hands-on training every day and prepare students for professional certification and licensing exams. EVIT students who complete their training have a 98 percent high school graduation rate and 90 percent on average are in jobs related to their training, college or the military within a year. Two out of three EVIT students go on to college.
Applications are being accepted for the position of As-Needed Bus Driver with the East Valley Institute of Technology. The beginning salary range is approximately $25.00-$27.00 dependent upon education and like experience. This is a 10 month position, as-needed position.Job SummaryThis position will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from EVIT to attend special school events.
Essential Functions

• Transport students to and from school for special events in a safe manner.
• Perform pre/post trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is safe to operate, continually check and monitor the condition of the bus and report any mechanical issues promptly.
• Maintain bus cleanliness and sanitation of the bus.
• Pick-up and deliver students to the appropriate pick-up and drop off sites.
• Interact with students in a positive manner, maintain good student and driver relationships.
• Maintain order on the bus at all times; complete student incident reports promptly.
• Educate and conduct bus evacuations for bus riders.
• Being on-time and available for special events is required.
• Attend training programs to maintain skills and meet requirements of the school bus certificate and driver’s license.
• Maintain a high level of ethical and professional behavior.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and safe transportation of EVIT’s students, staff and other riders.

Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of safe driving practices and techniques.
• Knowledge of Federal and applicable state traffic laws.
• Knowledge of basic first aid, CPR and other emergency procedures.
• Knowledge of safety and maintenance requirements for buses.
• Knowledge of safe process for handicap and special needs students.
• Be able to have positive interactions with all riders.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative professional relationships with EVIT staff.
• Strong problem-solving skills, ability to handle stressful situations. Ability to take responsibility and exercise good judgment.
• Be able to plan and follow routes to events to ensure safe and timely travel.

Training and Experience:

• Education and/or experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years of age with at least 1 year driving experience and a clean driving record.
• Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, an Arizona State Commercial Driver’s License with P and S and Air Brake Endorsement before transporting students.
• Either have the School Bus Driver Certification or be able to attend and pass the State Bus Driver Clinic program.

Licensing/Certification and Other Requirements:

• Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Identity Prints (IVP) fingerprint card. Applicable Arizona Statutes pursuant to Title 15 (Education) and Title 13 (Criminal) and Title 38 (Public Officers and Employees) prevail.
• Proof of immunization against or immunity to measles and rubella if born after January 1, 1957.
• Drivers must pass a drug and alcohol test as part of the pre-employment process and will be subject to future tests for: random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty or follow-up.
