Job Title: Senior Accountant - General Ledger and Reporting Grade Level/Terms of Employment: Grade 121 / 12 Month (260 days) Contract FLSA Status: Exempt Work Location: Finance Department Immediate Supervisor: Accounting Manager, General Ledger & Reporting General DescriptionThe Senior Accountant assists in planning, organizing, preparing, and maintaining accounting records in banking activities, analyzing revenue, accounts receivable management, and general accounting. Provides financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data and preparing reports. Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents. Perform analytical work and provide technical guidance on general ledger tasks. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Assists with the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR)
Assists with the year-end closing and audit process
Maintains and monitors the recording of fixed assets
Calculates and maintains depreciation schedules
Prepares work papers and other analyses in the areas of revenue and receivables
Prepares and maintains a recurring payment schedule and monitors monthly
Prepares work papers and other analyses to record year-end accruals
Prepares and keys journal entries
Assists in documenting finance department procedures and identifying opportunities for improvement
Analyzes and prepares reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and bank accounts; actively investigates reconciling items to resolve timely
Examines internal and external departmental processes, in the area of finance, budget, and purchasing, and reports any inconsistencies to the Manager of General Ledger Financial Reporting
Ensures financial internal controls and the integrity of the data and records are maintained
Collaborates with other departments to obtain resources needed to resolve
Aids other inter-departmental accounting staff on an as-needed basis
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required
At least five (5) years of increasingly responsible and progressive experience in government or general accounting is required
Good working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Practices (GAAP) and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) is required
Experience in auditing a plus
Ability to analyze data/financial records and maintain complex and confidential automated financial records and reports
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
Excellent communication and organizational (including keen attention to detail) skills
Ability to manage competing demands and determine priorities independently
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision; and in a cooperative and collaborative manner with all employees, school administration, business, and community representatives
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the internet
