Job Description
Student Engagement Programming:
Assists with the coordination and implementation of campus activities, events and programs that cultivate a strong sense of community, enhance co-curricular learning, promotes the eight-dimensions of wellness, develops student leaders, promotes student engagement within the college community, and supports the general functions of Student Engagement.
Functions as a generalist within the department of Student Engagement, with responsibility for special projects as assigned by the Manager, including service on division and/or College-wide committees, task forces, and special-project working groups.
Ensure diversity, equity and inclusion are integral to the design, planning and implementation of all programs and services, marketing materials and participation opportunities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Center for Veteran and Military Connected Students:
Provides planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of events and activities conducive to student veteran, service members, and military spouse and dependents development and success, as well as oversee development and implementation of special projects and programs.
Applies an in-depth knowledge to explain the usage of federal and state military educational benefits, to include application process, advisement of various educational benefits available to veterans, service members, spouses and dependents and directs student concerns regarding eligibility for benefits to the Harper College School Certifying Official.
Develops campus and community engagement opportunities for active military, student Veterans, active & inactive military/veteran spouses and family members.
Collaborates closely with key Harper College departments including Financial Aid, One Stop, Advising, Counseling, Tutoring Center, Writing Center, Access and Disability Services to ensure effective student veteran and military connected students support services.
Collaborates with community partners and Veteran services organizations to offer information, programs, and workshops for Harper Veterans and military-connected students; schedules such opportunities within the Center or on campus as practical.
Acts as liaison between Harper College and local and national resources/partners serving Veteran and Military Connected individuals.
Oversee student staffing within the Center; assisting with recruitment, hiring, training, development, and day-to-day direction.
Serves as primary staff advisor to the Student Veterans Association and assists with the production of major student programs, including Wheels of Gratitude - Veterans Celebration, semesterly Center welcome events, and the Red, White and Blue Graduation Celebration.
Participates in and attends all Student Veterans Association events and assists in the recruitment and retention of student leaders through Student Engagement.
Seeks knowledge and understanding regarding existing and new Veteran and service member acts or policies with the ability to articulate the meaning and impact to students and others as they arise in a timely manner.
Provides education to faculty and staff on the College's Military and Veteran Ally Program (MVAP) and the Veterans Integration To Academic Leadership (VITAL) program and provides policy recommendations to ensure an inclusive and welcoming educational environment for service members, Veterans and military connected students.
Coordinates and oversees daily operations, ensuring a positive, supportive, and engaging environment. Additionally, fosters a culture that celebrates and respects the diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging of all students within the Center for Student Veterans and Military Connected Students, regardless of rank, military branch, or service status.
Creates and administers the annual budget and goals for the Center. Develops and administers yearly assessment plans to evaluate usage, effectiveness, and satisfaction with the Veteran's programs and services.
Responsible for critical monthly and yearly College-wide reports summarizing the efforts and effectiveness of Veteran and Military Connected services.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree required; master's in college student personnel, higher education administration, or a related field, preferred.

Experience: Previous experience working with Veterans and/or community college/university students preferred. Must be able to build relationships with, and connections amongst, the Veteran and Military Connected students and the broader College community. Additionally, event management and/or advising or counseling background is a bonus.

Should possess a strong operational knowledge of the policies, services, and activities of federal and state military educational benefits, Veteran Affairs, and trends impacting student veterans, service members, spouses and dependents.

Must have strong communication skills for diverse audiences, including speaking, writing, and professional presentations. Proficiency in e-mail, social media, and Microsoft Office.

The Office of the Dean of Students is responsible for the areas of the College that are intended to connect students to campus resources, advocate for the needs of students, and support and engage students in ways that enhance the learning environment. This includes many of the "out of classroom" experiences designed to offer students ways to develop their whole identity, including: connecting to the campus and to other students, developing and strengthen leadership skills, understanding college policies and expectations, experiencing cultural and artistic events, learning about people and cultures that are different from one's own, making health decisions about wellness, learn about consensual sexual relationships, maintaining an active lifestyle, learning how actions affect others and gaining life skills like financial literacy and time management.
