Position SummaryPerforms administrative and clinical duties assigned for all patients by identifying the best method for retrieving specimens; preparing specimens for laboratory testing; performing screening procedures. Comply with organizational policies, procedures, standards of care and related laws and regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA and all accreditation agency regulations.
Essential Duties & Functions
- Collect blood samples from patients,
- Practice proper patient identification,
- Maintain an organized and clean work area based on state health laws and the guidelines of our medical organization
- Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures; observing isolation procedures.
- Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.
- Maintains quality results by following department procedures and testing schedule; recording results in the quality-control log; identifying and reporting needed changes.
- Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the physician, pathologist, nursing station, or reference laboratory; referring unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification; notifying supervisor of unresolved orders.
- Perform screening tests; safely and accurately draw blood; complete standing orders
- Develop effective collection techniques as they relate to groups such as pediatric and geriatric patients
- All other duties as assigned by the supervisor
- Support the Mission, Vision and Values of TFHC
- Work collaboratively by mentoring new and existing care team members, building bridges and creating rapport with team members across the organization
- Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with regulatory agencies and established organizational policies and procedures
- Must adhere to all HIPAA, OSHA, accreditation agency and TFHC rules and regulations
- Complete all duties assigned timely and accurately
- Openly, clearly and respectfully share and receive information, opinions, concerns and feedback in a supportive manner.
- High school diploma, or equivalent
- Graduate of an accredited school with a Phlebotomist.
- Must possess a valid state phlebotomy certification.
- Current BLS Certification
- Minimum of (6) months’ experience in a Phlebotomist role
