Position Summary

Our CP Kelco Okmulgee site makes nature based xanthan and gellan gum. We have a great opportunity for a dedicated, dependable person. This is a non-union role that offers a base salary plus bonus and is overtime eligible.

The Waste Water Treatment lab technician is responsible for the physical tests performed on various samples retrieved from both the WWTP and production facility. This includes equalization tank, UASB, SBR, disk filter, production plant flume, stills bottoms, etc. Accuracy in testing and reporting is essential. Required to work alone during night shift, holidays, and weekends. Must be able to work a rotating 12-hour shifts starting at 4:30PM to 4:30 AM. Some weeks you will work 3, 4 or 5 nights depending on the week. Some days you get several days off in a row. You must be available to work all days of the week though depending on your schedule. We operate on a Dupont Schedule and if you are in manufacturing you will know what that means.

Responsibilities

• Prepares samples by following documented procedures. Must have physical ability to manipulate 5-gallon containers of liquid weighing approximately 40 pounds at a distance of 30 feet and locate on shelves 6 feet above the floor. Required to utilize acids and bases and other commonly used chemicals in the laboratory. (Containers are labelled for identification). Required to calibrate equipment and maintain accurate records.
• Required to perform physical and analytical tests on various samples including but not limited to UASB, SBR, Final Effluent, and impoundments. Must be able to coordinate work responsibilities independently and report timely and accurate results. Generally, WWTP lab technician responsibilities require up to 10 hours of each shift to be spent on your feet. In addition, the job requires manual dexterity to make fine measurements with lab equipment, basic math skills to calculate test results, and the ability to learn basic computer skills to enter data.
• Used glassware and utensils are collected at the sink area for hand washing, and washing is accomplished by working at a waist-high counter and sink. After cleaning is completed, each piece of glassware and/or utensils is placed in wall cabinets or in drawers under the counter.
• Rounds of the facility are completed on a routine basis looking for leaks or other problems that could result in environmental permit non-compliance. Routine cleaning of the grounds, control room, lab, and restroom facilities are completed on a routine basis. Monitoring of reagent and chemical inventories and assisting with ordering. Light maintenance (PM completion, cleaning of the heat exchangers, changing tubing, etc.)

Requirements

• Minimum of one-year prior wastewater treatment plant work experience is preferred.
• Must be able to qualify and obtain and hold the certification from Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality.
• Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position.
• Must be able to learn basic computer skills.
• Must have demonstrated the ability to learn to perform the duties of the position in a reasonable period of time.
• Must be dependable, ethical, self motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
