SummaryMashed-O Ranch is seeking day workers to work under the direction of a Supervisor, to assist in accomplishing ranch, department, or unit goals as assigned. This may include caring for livestock, pastures, equipment, infrastructure, operating heavy machinery, general maintenance, or other duties assigned by a manager or supervisor. Responsibilities
Cattle husbandry: Properly and safely care for animals. Assure that cattle have adequate stock water, that pasture fences are maintained and that there is sufficient forage (and supplement if needed) to meet performance goals.
Equipment: May Operate farm and heavy equipment such as loaders, harvesters, tractors, skid loader, and trucks.
Timeliness: Be at work and begin working on-time, be trustworthy, and hustle.
Policy: Understand and follow ranch and company policy.
Safety: Work safely at all times and Be responsible for safety within the stewardship.
Infrastructure and Maintenance - Repair infrastructure as assigned: this may include fences, cow pens, facilities, vehicles, implements, and equipment. Keep the area neat, clean, and in good repair.
Qualifications
Must have a valid Driver’s License
Must have High School diploma or GED
Must be able to saddle & ride a horse
Must be able to effectively handle cattle
Must be able to drive a tractor with implements and be able to hook up and detach the implements
Must be able to perform the Minimal Cowboy Skill Set (see attached) and continuously improve basic cowboy skills and cattle production knowledge.
Must be able to continually lift up to 75 lbs.
Must be able to push, pull, and drag up to 200 lbs and work in situations involving a leaned over or squatted position
Must be able to walk and stand for 9-to-12 hours per day
Must be able to ride a horse for 6-to-8 hours per day
Must be able to work outside in year-round weather conditions including heat, cold, and rain
Must be able to work an average 45-hour week with an average 9-hour workday, which can vary frequently
Must be able to tolerate, be willing to learn, and to perform castration, euthanasia, vaccinations, dehorning, ear tagging, ear notching, branding, taking blood samples, and other procedures normal to animal husbandry.
