Essential Functions, Duties, And Responsibilities
Provides skilled nursing care during the post-anesthesia phase of surgery that is appropriate to the age of the patient served and in conformance with hospital policy, AORN standards, and ASPAN standards of care.
Follows established protocols and maintains a safe environment for post-anesthesia phase of surgery.
Demonstrates the ability for immediate and knowledgeable response in emergency situations.
Responsible for correct transcription of surgeons’ orders, accurate documentation of all care given, and charging appropriately for supplies, equipment, and procedures.
Assures continuity of care by adequate reporting to receiving nurse following discharge from PACU.
Assist with pre-op visits, peri-operative teaching, and post-op phone calls.
Initiates and maintains IVs as ordered.
Evaluates patients and appropriately communicated pertinent data to surgeon or CRNA.
Ensures that pre-op chart is complete before patient is taken to surgery.
Assists in the Operating Room and Endoscopy as requested by supervisor.
Identifies goals through the care planning process.
Actively participates in Performance Improvement.
Maintains current knowledge of procedures, techniques, and equipment.
Accepts accountability for own actions.

Admits patients and accompanies them to surgery when possible.

QUALIFICATIONS (Required)
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current Montana licensure as a Registered Nurse.
CPR and ACLS certified.
Knowledge of laws and legal interpretations as they relate to PACU care.
Demonstrates the ability to function appropriately in emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications
PALS certification.
Presents a professional and caring attitude to patients and staff.
Has legible handwriting
Surgical experience, approved CCU course, CCU experience, and care of newborn experience.
