SUMMARY
Aids and counsels survivors of domestic violence by connecting them to resources and helping them attain their goals to improve social functioning. Assists to modify attitudes and patterns of behavior by increasing understanding of domestic violence.
Pay differential of $1,000/year for individuals who are bilingual (Spanish and English).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Interviews clients to obtain information concerning their history or other pertinent information and assists in determining clients’ needs and goals.
Works three (3) regular day shifts from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and two (2) adjusted evening shifts a week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to accommodate clients’ schedules.
Performs housekeeping chores including but not limited to cleaning, vacuuming, mopping, steaming, and disinfecting client rooms after they are vacated to prepare for the next client along with all areas of the shelter along with trash removal and laundry as needed.
Is on call to provide direction to subordinates for any concerns they have relating to client issues in emergency shelter. Is responsible for covering shifts when a subordinate is not able to work the scheduled shift.
Assists and provides education to clients on domestic violence related issues on an individual or group basis.
Helps clients to access agency's services such as transportation, court advocacy, and other community resources.
Discusses progress toward goals with clients such as safety, housing, transportation or employment.
Provides advocacy and appropriate referrals for clients to community resources and other organizations to supplement services received at Harbor House and assists clients in accessing these services, such as education, housing and employment.
Documents client interaction and advocacy services. Compiles and maintains documentation, records and prepares reports in a timely manner.
Provides court advocacy by screening calls to determine appropriateness for Emergency Order of Protection and assist in seeking Orders of Protection to victims of domestic violence.
Helps educate the community on issues of domestic violence and develop resources for programs as may be indicted. Participate in committees and attend trainings to keep informed on issues that assist the growth of the organization.
Answers phone and hotline as needed; provides crisis intervention, supports and assists; documents all client contact.
Remains informed of domestic violence issues; attends in-service trainings. Assists in volunteer and new employee trainings.
Provides counseling as need dictates.
Performs job responsibilities to maintain an atmosphere of cohesiveness.
Is open-minded and accepting of individuals with different beliefs and worldviews.
Performs other duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in social work or applicable field from four-year college or university. Or, four (4) years of experience in a case management setting.

40-Hour Domestic Violence Training provided upon hire
Certified Domestic Violence Professional within 18 months of hire
Trainings requested by the Executive Director or supervisor
