Why Holtz Women's and Children's Hospital:

Holtz Children's Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center is one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the southeast United States, where UHealth - University of Miami Health System physicians treat children from throughout Florida and the Caribbean. Holtz Children's is known worldwide for its care of critically ill newborns in its neonatal intensive care unit, which is one of the largest in the United States and boasts some of the best medical outcomes. In collaboration with the Miami Transplant Institute, Holtz Children's is one of only three centers in the country that specializes in pediatric multi-organ transplants. It is home to one of only three state-accredited comprehensive children's kidney failure centers and one of the largest pediatric kidney transplant programs in the world. The Children's Heart Center at Holtz Children's is the only comprehensive children's heart program in South Florida. In partnership with the University of Miami, Holtz Children's also trains the most pediatric physicians of any medical center in the southeastern United States.

Summary:

  • The Director of Patience Care Services assumes responsibility for the planning, priority setting, coordination, management and evaluation of patient and staff education for the Jackson Health System(JHS).
  • Provides the organization with a positive example of cooperative leadership by maintaining an enthusiastic and progressive relationship with patient care services, directors and vice presidents, as appropriate.
  • Exercises shared responsibility for maintaining an appropriate balance of cooperation, communication, and integration among the departments, faculty and staff to ensure an efficient and progressive environment that carries out a program of quality education.
  • Provides the opportunity for growth and development of staff through learning opportunities, professional mentorship, research, and other staff development activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides the leadership framework for planning, directing, coordinating and improving services of the Division that are responsive to the needs of the Jackson Health System (JHS).
  • Plans, develops and implements programs to insure that all patients are provided with appropriate care.
  • Provides leadership support in the communication and integration of the JHS Mission and Vision Statement.
  • Insures that all areas of responsibility reach or exceed the standard required by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals and State of Florida License requirements.
  • Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates programs to provide comprehensive quality care to all patients within areas of responsibilities.
  • Develops, implements, and supports strategies to elevate quality and innovative nursing practice.
  • Develops and monitors departmental operating budgets, which include personnel, contractual services, supplies and capital equipment.
  • Monitors and analyzes services that are presently being provided and need to be provided in the best interest of the JHS and the community.
  • Establishes departmental goals and objectives with target dates for completion. Recruits, motivates, evaluates and maintains an effective staff to carry out assigned responsibility.
  • Provides for the training, education and development for the advancement goals of staff members.
  • Develops and maintains effective collaborative relationships with professional staff as well as ancillary support staff.
  • Provides leadership support in the development and execution of the Performance Improvement Program.
  • Assures continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of services provided to patients.
  • Establishes standards of performance for all personnel and insures that those performances are properly evaluated and based on the productivity and the contribution of each employee to the overall organization.
  • Role models behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
  • The leader understands and adheres to JHS compliance standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct, Compliance Policies, and all other JHS Policies and Procedures and supports the commitment of JHS in adhering to federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations governing ethical business practices for health care providers by demonstrating knowledge of procedures for protecting and maintaining security, confidentiality and integrity of employee, patient, family and organization information.
  • The Leader further understands that JHS is committed to its role in preventing health care fraud and abuse and complying with applicable state and federal laws related to health care fraud and abuse.
  • This commitment is supported and enabled through an anonymous hotline which serves as one of several mechanisms for reporting suspected fraud, waste and/or abuse, as well as other compliance related issues.
  • The leader to report through any of the reporting mechanisms (e.g., anonymous hotline, supervisor, Compliance Officer) any suspected health care fraud, waste and/or abuse as well as other compliance-related issues.
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience:

  • Generally requires 7 to 10 years of related experience.
  • Management experience is required.
  • Obstetrics or Operating Room experience preferred

Education:

Bachelor's degree in related field is required. Master's degree is preferred. At least one degree must be in Nursing.

Credentials:

  • Valid Florida RN license is required.
  • Advanced Nursing Administration certification is preferred. Leaders performing direct patient care are required to have a valid A merican Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required with at least 6 months validity.
