Description

The Director of Network Systems and Infrastructure provides strategic leadership and guidance to Samford University's Data Center, Network, and Infrastructure teams; oversees and directs the on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure operations, including cloud computing, systems, server hardware, software, data center, network, telephony, storage, and database technologies. The Director of the Systems and Network Infrastructure will manage and support a local team of IT staff, work closely with internal customers to ensure the highest level of IT support, and manage the budgetary and operational plans for the team.
Job Duties
•The Systems and Network Infrastructure Director is considered a critical employee but will only receive that designation as needed. As a critical employee, the Director of the Network Systems and Infrastructure may be required to work even when the university officially closes.
•Collaborates with the CIO and department directors to plan, strategize, and ensure critical initiatives are developed and completed
•Develop key vendor partnerships to provide agility for technology acquisitions, strategic planning, and architecture recommendations
•Negotiates and manages contracts with key service providers to meet service levels
•Researches and implements best practices for infrastructure services, including proven infrastructure methodologies, service management processes, and operational support
•Ensure continuous technology operations by monitoring all infrastructure and services and responding to issues promptly
•Manages technology Infrastructure projects, plans, and budgets to align with the organization's strategic direction and initiatives to foster a high-performing work environment and mitigate risks
•Manages infrastructure spending, implements solutions to reduce operational costs, and creates budgets for innovative solutions, including preparing budget estimates and recommendations for procurement of services, training, and necessary technologies
•Provide leadership while mentoring other members of Systems and Network Infrastructure team
•Coordinate all infrastructure changes and outages with the other Technology Services directors
•Notify the campus community of any planned interruptions in production services
•Provides leadership in Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning
•Maintain confidential information, or confidential issues, with discretion
•Provide the Chief Information Officer with a weekly status report on projects for the week
•Maintain excellent oral and written communication with faculty, staff, and students
•Other duties as required
Qualifications
•Bachelor's degree in a technology-related discipline
•Five (5) years as a Director/Manager providing oversight of a Network/Infrastructure team
•Ten (10) years in a Networking/Infrastructure role
Preferred Qualifications
•Master's degree
•Higher education leadership experience
•Higher education IT experience
•Knowledge of database technology (e.g. Oracle, MySQL, SQL)
•Expert knowledge of server and storage technologies, operating systems (e.g. Windows, Linux)
