The High School Art Teacher is responsible for fostering creativity, artistic expression, and visual literacy among students. This role involves designing and delivering art lessons, developing students' skills in various art mediums, and contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment. The successful candidate fosters a positive and engaging learning environment that promotes student understanding and proficiency utilizing a standards-aligned curriculum. The successful candidate for the position of High School Art Teacher not only imparts artistic knowledge and skills but also inspires creativity, self-expression, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts. The ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment is essential for fostering students' artistic development. The High School Art Teacher will utilize assessment data to determine progress against instructional objectives and will utilize instructional strategies and differentiated instruction to support all students to achieve their goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

  • Collaborate and lead as part of the greater school team and community.
  • Exemplify a relentless commitment and passion for improving conditions for a successful future for all students.
  • Define and set a collaborative vision that demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and anti-racism.

Curriculum Planning & Instructional Delivery

  • Develop and implement a standards-aligned art curriculum that covers a range of art forms, techniques, and art history.
  • Create engaging and age-appropriate lesson plans that foster creativity and artistic expression.
  • Deliver dynamic and interactive art lessons using a variety of teaching methods, including demonstrations, hands-on activities, and multimedia resources.
  • Provide guidance and support to students in developing their artistic skills and personal artistic style.

Visual Literacy

  • Foster visual literacy by teaching students to analyze and interpret visual artworks, both historical and contemporary.
  • Encourage critical thinking and discussions about artistic concepts and techniques.

Artistic Techniques:

  • Instruct students in various artistic techniques and mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and digital art.
  • Provide demonstrations and hands-on experiences to help students master different art forms.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Develop and implement assessments to measure student progress and understanding of artistic concepts.
  • Provide constructive feedback on students' artworks and guide them in setting and achieving artistic goals.

Individualized Support

  • Provide additional support and guidance to students with varying skill levels and learning needs.
  • Offer one-on-one assistance and differentiated instruction to help students succeed in their artistic endeavors.

Classroom Management

  • Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that encourages artistic exploration and collaboration.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure a focused and productive learning atmosphere.

Exhibitions and Displays

  • Organize and showcase student artwork in school exhibitions, art shows, or other public displays.
  • Create opportunities for students to share their artistic creations with the school community and beyond.

Community Engagement

  • Collaborate with other educators, parents, and the local community to promote the importance of arts education.
  • Organize or participate in community art events, workshops, or partnerships.

Professional Development

  • Stay informed about current trends in art education, instructional strategies, and relevant technology tools.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.

Technology Integration

  • Integrate technology into art instruction, incorporating digital art tools and multimedia resources to enhance students' artistic experiences.

Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and other relevant information.
  • Document and organize lesson plans, assessments, and student artworks.

Professionalism

  • Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with students, colleagues, and parents, adhering to ethical standards and school policies.
