Job Overview:
Leading and growing the after-school care program (Learning Tree) by developing curriculum, and caring for the children of our church and community. This position also encompasses VBS, children and family events, and builds bridges between our Learning Tree Community and the life of the church.
Reporting to this position: Paid Learning Tree worker(s), Learning Tree volunteers
List of Responsibilities:
-To glorify God by enriching the spiritual lives of children in our church and community
-Implement and carry out age appropriate Christian-based curriculum for Learning Tree Program (Monday 7:30am-5:30pm and Tuesday-Friday 3:00-5:30pm, pre-k-4th grade students)
-Help provide care and a safe, Christian environment for the children in our after-school care, as well as the children within the church, and whenever possible, build bridges between these two groups
-Lead a Wednesday night children’s program during the school year for the children of the church
-Plan and lead approximately 1 children and/or family based event per month in the life of the church
-Supervise the other student workers within the Learning Tree Program and co-ordinate the volunteers.
-Assist in fundraising for the sustainability and growth of the ministry.
-Some responsibilities within the Learning Tree expectations have in the past included: snack time, music, prayer and memory verses, chapel time, indoor and outdoor exercise and playtime, Bible study, cooking, gardening and creation care activities, crafts, etc. It is not essential for the director to have all of these gifts, but must be willing to work with volunteers and staff to help give these children a wide variety of spiritual care in these areas.

-Other duties as assigned by the Pastor, Learning Tree Board, Church Council
Skills, Education, Training Required for this position:
Must be able to pass a background check and adhere to Safe Sanctuaries guidelines at all times.
-A mature faith and a love of Jesus Christ and the church
-Understanding of Bible and theology, and the ability to relate it in an age-appropriate manner towards children. This is a program within the UMC, and while the candidate does not need to be United Methodist, they must commit to align their theological teachings within the views of the church. If there is ever a question about a particular teaching, the pastor will provide guidance and advice.
-Must have a passion for children and demonstrate the ability to work well with many different types of children at the same time.
-Must have creativity, flexibility, and patience
-Must have strong organizational skills and a strong work ethic
-Must be a positive influence for children
-Comfortable with recruiting volunteers, leading children, supervising student workers
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15,000.00 - $17,000.00 per year
