Job Description

The Senior Director plays a pivotal role in the development, coordination and management of a new, organization-wide Volunteer Program. This individual is responsible for strengthening volunteer, intern and group volunteerism across the organization. They will work closely with program staff to identify volunteer opportunities and for recruiting, training and supervising volunteers to ensure that CCB’s programs are effectively supported and delivered. This role requires strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills to engage volunteer, build relationships with stake holders and advance the mission of Catholic Charities Boston.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with Catholic Charities program managers and staff to assess volunteer needs and identify opportunities to enhance services through volunteer support.
  • Design and implement volunteer programs and targeted projects aligned with the agency’s mission and goals.
  • Develop policies, procedures and guidelines for volunteer participation, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements, including all required Catholic Charities and Archdiocesan screening procedures.
  • With the Chief Development Officer, establish the Catholic Charities Service Corps to empower individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 to become catalysts for social change within their communities; recruit young adults from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about making a difference and committed to advancing the mission of Catholic Charities through volunteer activities.
  • Hire, supervise and evaluate the Volunteer Program Coordinator position.
  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit volunteers, including outreach efforts, marketing campaigns and partnerships with parishes, schools and community organizations.
  • Conduct volunteer on-boarding orientations, training, and ongoing support to ensure volunteers are well-prepared and motivated.
  • Design a new volunteer training program to educate volunteers about the mission, values and program of CCB, as well as provide specific relevant skills training based on the volunteer’s chosen role.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive volunteer culture by working closely with program managers to address any concerns and by recognizing and appreciating volunteer contributions.
  • Collaborate with the Advancement and Marketing and Communications teams to leverage volunteer stories and impact for donor engagement and public relations efforts.
  • Working closely with program managers; assign volunteers to appropriate roles based on their skills, interests and availability.
  • With Program Managers, monitor volunteer performance, address performance issues or conflicts as they arrive.
  • Provide structured ongoing support and supervision of volunteers through regular check-ins and feedback sessions.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive volunteer stewardship program, including the recognition of outstanding volunteer contributions and key volunteer milestones.
  • Manage the Get Connected data platform, develop and implement systems to track volunteer activities, hours and impact on program outcomes.
  • Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of the volunteer program and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare regular reports for CCB leadership, funders and stakeholders to communicate volunteer achievements, challenges and future goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, nonprofit management or related field (master’s degree preferred)
  • Previous leadership experience in volunteer management and/or program coordination, including staff supervision.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and best practices in volunteer management
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and foster a culture of inclusion and respect
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including. Competency with virtual platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams and other technical platforms
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds
  • Local travel occasionally Catholic Charities service sites
