Join our team:

The successful Grower Manager will grow horticultural-specialty crops, such as ornamental plants, vegetables and energy crops, under environmentally controlled conditions and in outside growing areas, applying knowledge of plant culture, environmental control and labor management to meet the consistent quality standards of each customer. In partnership with the Customer Service and Operations teams, the Growing department’s goal is to build profitable, successful, long-term relationships with both internal and external customers.

Summary of essential job functions:

• Train and supervise area growers.
• Monitor seedhouse for proper control of seeding, germ and placement.
• Monitor crop development and inventory as per customer specifications.
• Monitor crop height weekly. Monitor greenhouse temperatures.
• Regularly walk crops scouting for diseases, insects, and any other possible condition requiring attention.
• Oversee irrigation/fertilization scheduling.
• Oversee pesticide scheduling and training.
• General lab work including the monitoring of irrigation water quality on a daily basis.
• Work closely with Farm Manager and Production, Logistics and Customer Service Managers to ensure crop quality and timely shipping.
• Report areas/equipment requiring specific attention to maintenance staff.
• Be available to inform customers of crop progress.
• Monitor and implement the companies’ activities as related to water and other permitting.

Minimum Abilities and Requirements:

• BS in Horticulture or related field.
• Experience with managing a grow team with an in depth understanding of greenhouse operations, quality and productivity
• Specialized Knowledge or Skills: Bilingual in Spanish is helpful.
• Appreciation of environmental factors as they relate to plant growth and development
• Self-motivation and logical thought and reasoning ability for problem-solving
• Must be Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Excel
• Valid driver license, clean criminal history and drug free
• Willingness to travel as required by company (minimal)
• Willingness to obtain and maintain a State pesticide license
• Manufacturing aptitude, must be able to work as part of a team
• Willingness to work weekends during busy season, hours will change based on business needs
• Must be in good physical condition and able to work outdoors for extended periods of time
• Ability to demonstrate high ethical standards
• Able to work indoors, outdoors, in warehouse or greenhouse all seasons
• Able to lift up to 40 lbs and able to stand for prolonged periods of time
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations
• Ability to tolerate exposure to greenhouse elements such as heat, cold, water and dirt
