Vision House is Hiring a Family Program Intern Near Renton, WA

Description

Purpose: The Vision House internship program is to provide individuals new to the human services field with hands-on ministry experience in the non-profit sector. Our program is designed to develop and equip emerging Christian leaders through a process of inquiry, feedback and growth with an emphasis on servant leadership, vocation, calling and mission.

  • Opportunity for mentoring: The emphasis on mentoring conversations will be on identifying an intern’s current strengths and weaknesses to learn how to use these to promote success.
  • Conversations concerning Vocation, Calling and Giftedness: Each intern will engage in an ongoing process of reflection with their mentor. As a group, interns will explore personal strengths using the Gallup Strengths Finder assessment.

INTERNSHIP LENGTH: 1-year (Sept-Aug)

REPORTS TO: Site Supervisor

MENTOR: People Development Specialist

HOURS: 24-40 hours per week Nonexempt

LOCATION: Renton, WA

RATE AND BENEFITS

  • $19.00 per hour
  • 12 Days of Vacation

INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Join Youth and Family Advocates in their weekly case meetings, supporting families in their individual family goals. This may include supporting children’s educational needs, providing attachment-based activities to develop family bonds, and connecting families with resources.
  • Support Case Managers in serving residents. This may include helping clients fill out paperwork, call housing lists, and connect to community resources.
  • Assist with data entry and other administrative tasks.
  • Engage with families, assist in summer activities, and help manage weekly/monthly activities such as homework lab, Kids Club, and childcare. This may include working late one evening a week to support Vision House programming.
  • Provide structured childcare opportunities for children experiencing behavioral and cognitive challenges
  • Plan and lead Family Fun events for Vision House residents designed to support family attachment and provide opportunities for community building among clients.
  • Support Youth and Family Advocates in program development.
  • With the guidance of the Site Supervisor and Youth and Family Advocates, create a capstone project to implement in the Vision House program.
  • Engage fully as a Family Services team member, attending trainings, meetings, and workshops to increase capacity to serve families experiencing homelessness.
  • Complete tasks to support other team members as requested by Site Supervisor.

INTERN SELECTION PROCESS

Selection will be based on the following:

  • Demonstrated interest in social services or human services career and an alignment with our mission to follow Jesus in working with families experiencing poverty and homelessness to promote positive transformation of their lives.
  • An interest in an internship that utilizes a relational, inquiry-based model, focusing on self-awareness, spiritual reflection and personal growth.
  • Demonstrated character traits of integrity, perseverance, curiosity and collaboration.
  • Content and quality of applicant's Statement of Purpose.
  • Quality of fit with Vision House expectations and opportunities.
  • An ability to act with integrity and uphold professional standards at all times.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to effectively work independently or as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate good listening and interactive communication skills.
  • Personal characteristics: approachable, empathetic, flexible, discerning.
  • Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and ability with an aptitude to learn company applications.
  • Ability to pass background check.
  • Ability to sign our Statement of Faith.
